Pat was an inspiration to the 1981 football team and as my Linebacker coach he made us men. He was funny as heck and just seemed to care that each of us did well and gave our best. I miss Pat very much to this day.

I loved seeing Pat's smiling face every where. What I appreciate the most was his willingness to allow any player to join his football class. The student might not make it to a starting position, but he(or she) was welcome. It means alot to a child to be included, and Pat Honeycutt included and cared about students.

I am so sorry for your loss. I got to know Honey over the years while owning T-Shirts-n-Trophies doing so much with the schools. I always just called him Honey and he was one. An amazing man, so full of life. The thing that impressed me the most was his PE class that was for the special kids...he truly loved being a part of their lives.
I got to see Honey in '05 at the Hall of Fame Banquet and I am so glad I did. His leaving has left a hole in your lives.
My prayers are with all of his family.

It was my deep privilege to get to know Pat Honeycutt while I was a counselor at McCallum and he became the head coach. Having been at McCallum for 27 years my blood already ran blue, and soon after Pat's did too. I'm sure everyone will have a favorite story to tell and this is mine. Shortly after arriving at McCallum I was suprised to see the "new" coach at a National Honor Scociety Program. A few weeks later he attended one of our one-act plays. Having been a speech and drama teacher as well as high school counselor for many years, this was something new for me. I have known many coaches. Most of them do not attend scholastic or fine arts events. I was very touched and moved by his sensitivity and his interest in all things McCallum. Pat Honeycutt was one of a kind. I admire d and respected him and will always treasure his friendship.

To my precious children Lauren and Ryan and my two beautiful step-daughters Julie and Jamie,
As you all know, your Dad was an amazing guy! He loved you all with all his heart and soul and he continues his love for you in heaven. He will always be with you wherever you go. He is walking arm in arm with our God, your Grandfather, Julie & Jamie's beloved mother Sue, cousin Lee, Uncle Jim, and his great coaching friends of 16 yrs. at Trinity High --- John Reddell, Larry Wright, and Ray Verkirk. He was loved by all his coaching family and friends from Euless Trinity and the many lives he touched there before we moved to Austin in 1992 to take the McCallum job. In the 27 yrs I knew your dad, I'm thankful we were able to remain friends through thick and thin. Always know that you four are the most precious blessings of our 13 yr. union.
I love you so much!

I have not known one person that has anything bad to say about Coach Honeycutt. He was a great man, leader, coach and friend to ALL students at MAC. He was a great inspiration to anyone who crossed his path, he was always upbeat, motivating and caring. MAC has lost a shining Knight but we will never forget the wonderful man he was. His spirit will forever be buried in our souls.

As our son becomes an adult, it is a pleasure to see him and so many of his Mac teammates become such fine young men. We know what a monumental part Pat played in their development.
Pat Honeycutt taught his players life lessons that transcend the gridiron. What may be most amazing is that he did so without them even knowing it at the time. Each and every one of his players learned tenacity, perseverance, tolerance, humor, and compassion. He imparted these qualities and skills as he transformed individuals from (what many would believe to be) unmanageably diverse backgrounds, into closely-knit teams that often felt like family. Not all of his players may choose to utilize those skills once they leave the locker room. But make no mistake; they all received the skills while playing for him.
As parents of one such fortunate player, we are eternally grateful for Pat's contribution to our son's life. We are sorrowful for the monumental loss his passing brings. There are no words to convey the substantial impact he had on our entire family. And we know that we are among the least of those affected. Our thoughts are with his professional family, players, and close friends. Above all else, Nancy, Jamie, Julie, Lauren, Ryan, and Tanner, will remain in our prayers. Truly, the impact of his wonderfully colorful life is immeasurable.

As Mrs. Hines and John White have written, Coach Honeycutt was a great influence on the 1972-73 Midland Lee football program. I will never forget the image of Coach Honeycutt and others on the Rebel staff attending to a young player that had been hit by lightning on our practice field in October of 1972. Coach Honeycutt put his own life on the line to take care of this player. Coach Honeycutt must have carried this love of his players and associates with him for the next 35 years. Our world needs more like this man. We extend our prayers to his family and loved ones.

My deepest condolences to the Honeycutt family. He was a great coach and an even better person. He was probably the main reason why I became a coach. He taught me so much as a player and wanted to be somebody like him as an adult. I will always remember his strut walking down the hallways, pointing at me saying Hello, and all the funny jokes he had. I'm truly blessed to have gotten to know him and play for him. I will miss him dearly and I hope to pass on to the young athletes what he taught me. RIP Coach Honeycutt and my family and I love you.

Coach Honeycutt's dad (whom we called Honey) and my husband coached together in Monahans . . . it was a lifetime ago, and Pat was affectionately called Patty by the youthful coaching staff. Then in 1973 I was blessed to be on the teaching staff at Midland Lee when "Patty" was a Rebel coach. It was his heritage to be a kind, encouraging, and compassionate human being. It was his legacy from his father to be the father he became. It was his inheritance from his mother Frances to be the life partner to his own wife.
Now, those of us who knew him, who felt his influence, are his beneficiaries. I extend my condolences to "Patty's" loved ones for they are many and they have been enriched by having known him.

Coach Honeycutt was a kind and caring person. I never had him as a coach but somehow he knew me anyways. He was supportive of every athletic group, every academic group, and every fine arts group. Dear Honeycutt family,
Our prayers are with you during this time of grief. I knew Pat when I was a counselor at McCallum H.S. (1997-99). One summer, my husband accompanied me on a school related trip to San Diego (Camp Pendleton for future marines) where we both got to know Pat. I remember how he bought Beanie Babies for his kids one afternoon when our training session ended and, of course, lottery tickets for himself because he said, You never know..." He was a kind, caring person with a great sense of humor. He will be missed.

The loss of a man with his magnitude is impossible to fathom. The halls of McCallum and coach honeycutt's 2nd home (the field house) will always echo his praises. He was a wonderful man who made as many people smile as possible. He was never my coach but being a part of the dance department, and sharing many a time in the field house with the magnificent entity that was coach Honeycutt bring about some of my greatest highschool memories. He was mostly smiles, but when he yelled he meant it. He only wanted the best for the people he loved, a fact that could never be disputed. My thoughts are with his family and former players that would probably refer to him as their 2nd dad. His place in this world will never be refilled. Let his legacy live on and may you rest in peace Pat Honeycutt.

Austin, Euless, Alpine, Monahans and Forsan can all say that they have lost one of their favorite sons. I can't say enough good things about the entire Honeycutt family. Our family was thrilled when they moved to Monahans from Forsan shortly after we did. Pat got his sense of humor and the values that everyone so highly praises, not only from his wonderful parents, but from the family friendly small towns that he grew up in and remained loyal to. When he looks down on the masses that will assemble for his funeral, don't let him see any long faces, be sure to smile, look toward the sky, and give him a wave for me and all his other friends that can only be there in spirit today.

The McCallum Field House and Football Program will never be the same. There are a lot of High School Football Coaches but there was only one Coach Honeycutt; and any student that played for him knows what I mean and probably ows him a great deal of gratitude for shaping their character in some way (for better or for worse). 17 years ago Coach took over McCallum, I was a junior looking forward to my big senior year. The details of a conversation I had with him are irrelevant except for the fact that I still reference that conversation anytime I am faced with adversity. Years after playing for Coach Honeycutt, I received letters from him while I was in Iraq. He not only took the time to write me, but he also had to take the time to determine how to address the first letter so that it could find its way to me in Iraq. His letters were the funniest and some of the most enjoyable letters that I have ever read. I hope that I saved those letters from long ago, but given how crazy Coach Honeycutt was, I might have burned the letters in the desert to protect the two of us from the United States Army. It was a true blessing for me to have been given the opportunity to play for Coach Honeycutt and to get to know him. Coach Honeycutt was a great friend, coach and teacher. May God bless Coach Honeycutt and his family.

McCallum High School is forever changed , but I will never walk through the hallways or attend an athletic event without thinking of Coach Honeycutt - or seeing that twinkle in his eyes or his wonderful smile. "I tell you what..." -Pat Honeycutt
My senior year at McCallum I was honored and privileged enough to lead the football team in the lords prayer before our games. Every game i would find my way to the front of the locker room and Coach Honeycutt seemed always to be behind me with his hand on my shoulder as i kneeled down to pray. Now that he has left us I feel that he will always be on my shoulder leading me on. I cannot say enough about the man that taught me about life and not just football. I will never forget him and will try to lead my life by his example the way he did. I am honored and humbled that I was able to be a part of his life. God Bless Coach Pat Honeycutt and his Family.
