Patricia BOON Obituary

BOON, Patricia "Pat" Lane

Patricia "Pat" Lane Boon, age 85, passed away August 13, 2014 at Longhorn Village, Austin, TX. The angels are surely singing "Hark the Harold Angels Sing" which is one of Pat's favorite songs. Pat was born on September 29, 1928 in Harlingen, TX and grew up in Longview, TX. After completing high school, she enrolled at Kilgore Junior College where two noteworthy things happened. She met her future husband, Bob Boon in freshman Spanish class. She also, became a member and captain of the Kilgore Rangerettes even marching in the Rose Bowl Parade. Pat transferred from Kilgore to Southwestern University in Georgetown, where she graduated with a degree in Sociology (which she used all her life). She was an active member of the drama club and Tri Delta Sorority.

Pat had a sharp mind and keen sense of humor, an abiding interest in our great country and an unrivaled capacity for making and keeping friends. She always had a nice smile on her face.

To her friends, Pat was warm, gracious, authentic and a genuine hostess. She was wise, discerning and always trustworthy. To Bob, Pat was his sweetheart, best friend, chief cook, bottle washer and golfing companion. Pat was a leader in her community through the Junior League and St. Matthews Episcopal Church. She was passionate about sponsoring hundreds of individuals in their spiritual growth and AI-Anon. Pat was an activist in politics, church and living life. She enjoyed fishing, golf, tennis, horseback riding, boating and football. Pat liked playing almost any card game, dominos and puzzles. She looked forward to Christmas and singing carols. Pat was a voracious reader and champion of how important reading is for children.

To her children, Pat was more than just a mother and homemaker. She was a confidant, mentor, co-conspirator and friend. She was interested in their activities and was always available to listen.

To her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was an imaginative storyteller and playmate. Pat was always so full of energy and gave them lots of hugs and love.

Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, William Robert Boon, her parents Floyd and Wenona Lane, her sister and best friend Sue Tarpley and her son-in-law T.J. Peters. Pat is survived by her son, Robert Sterling Boon and his wife Paula of Austin; and her daughter Malinda Boon Peters of Bowie, TX; grandchildren Stephen Boon, Taylor Boon, Tyler Boon, Jessica Ross-Boon, Erica Ross, and Meghan Chapin; great-grandchildren Kalli, Lilly Kate, Annie and Danny Parker.

The family would like to express their love and gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Longhorn Village and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care of our beloved Mother.

Services celebrating the life of Patricia Boon will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 30th at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with internment at the Memorial Gardens. The church address is 8134 Mesa Drive. A reception will follow hosted by the family and church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Austin Recovery, Alzheimer's Foundation, and Heart to Heart Hospice.

Pat was very special to me. She was always there when I needed her, she listened,
she comforted me. We laughed together. She was
my friend. I just found out that she passed last August and I'm very sad. But I know she is making rainbows in heaven, and that she is even more amazing there than she was here. I take comfort in knowing that I'll see her again.

Pat was such a special person at St. Matthew's. We miss her and pray for all her family. I'm sure she's supervising some of God's projects in heaven.
