Philip KUHN Obituary

KUHN, Philip Mathew
Philip Mathew Kuhn, 56, of Austin, Texas and formerly of Russell and Hays, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Philip was born on November 8, 1959 to Gilbert and Alberta (Denning) Kuhn in Russell, Kansas. After attending the Russell school system he graduated from Russell High School in 1978. Philip was active in all sports while attending school but developed an interest in rocks and geology after attending an exhibit of the "moon rocks" in Russell, brought back to earth by the astronauts.

After graduation, Philip attended the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, California and was certified as a graduate gemologist. He spent many years in the jewelry business at Kuhn's Diamond Jewelers in Hays, Kansas, and Kruger Jewelry in Austin, Texas, ending up in the semi-conductor business working for Silicon Labs of Austin, Texas. Philip will be remembered by friends, co-workers, and family by his warm smile and greeting. Philip had no strangers in his life and always went out of his way to be friendly, meet, and greet anyone he encountered.

Philip was previously married to Angela (Blancette) Kuhn and is survived by two children, Garren and Maloree, and one grandchild, Bentley, all of Austin, Texas. Philip was the fourth of five children born of "Gib" and "Bert" (Denning) Kuhn, and is survived by two brothers, Bill (Tian), of Olathe, Kansas, and Mark (Mary Ann) of Wichita, Kansas, and one sister, Sari Reynolds (Randy) of Hays, Kansas. Phil has six nephews; Bill, Brandon, Jacob, and Bryce Kuhn, Bryan Reynolds and Matt Smith, and four nieces; Andrea Kuhn, Danielle Holtzman, Rachel Wentling, and Amy Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alison (Kuhn) Wippich.

Services for Philip will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 12:00 PM at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Austin, Texas. Visitation will be in the chapel at 10:30 until time of the service with a reception following at 1:00 PM. I was sorry to hear that Phil had passed away.

He always had a smile and did not let his sickness get in the way of living his life to the fullest.

He was a great co-worker and friend.

I remember him inviting me to the Dallas Stars and Texas Stars exhibition hockey game 8 years ago. We had front row seats right behind the Dallas Stars bench. it was a great night and the one of the highlights of my life.

He will be missed very much.

I was sorry to hear that Phil had passed away.

I have worked with Phil for many years and was not aware he was sick. He always appeared happy when I talked to him and always had a nice thing to say or a great smile and laugh. He did not let his sickness ruin his day. It was a great testament to how he wanted to live each day.

I can remember when he invited me to a Dallas Stars and Texas Stars exhibition hockey game and we got to sit right behind the Dallas Stars bench. That night was a highlight of my life. I had a great time with him that night.

He will be missed by me as a friend and co-worker.

Sorry for the late entry. I was not aware of the guest book until today.

I only got to know Phil after he got sick. He could, understandably, be an emotional handful, but I really enjoyed his company and outlook. I only got to meet one member of his family, his sister, but she was as warm and sunny as a summer day. I know you're in a place where you're loved Phil and we'll laugh together again soon my friend.
