Robert Barnett Obituary

Robert "Charlie" Barnett.

Charlie peacefully passed away on February 12th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in Reno NV. Born March 10th, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas he grew up with his siblings Brian and Kelli in the Windsor Park neighborhood of Austin TX. He graduated from John H. Reagan High school in 1966 and later from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He had a successful career of 29 years with The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. He proudly served on ATF's largest contemporary cases, including as the Taskforce supervisor for the Unabomber.

While working in Dallas, he met Janice, who after only a few months would become his wife of 44 years. They had one son, Wade Barnett, who they raised between Texas and California.

Charlie was loved by many as a courageous man with unwavering bravery. After retirement, Charlie and Jan moved to Reno to spend time with their only grandchild, Courtney Barnett, their son Wade and their daughter-in-law Susan. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, driving his sports cars or sitting outside with a cigarette. With the sudden death of Janice in 2017, Charlie was left swallowed with grief. Loved ones remark he died shortly before Valentine's Day to make up for lost time with Jan.

Robert "Charlie" Barnett's celebration of life will be held on June 21st, 2025 in Austin Texas.

My name is Chuck Hughes. I am the Reagan Class of 1966 Site Administrator. Charles (Charlie) as all in our Reagan Class of 1966 called him, is remembered as a great classmate and friend to many.
I was in Boy Scout Troop 25 with Charlie. We had many great times in those days. His Dad and my Dad were very involved in Troop 25 helping prepare great meals during our camping trips.
Many fond memories being the first Senior Class at Reagan High School.
I have added Charlie to our Reagan Class of 1966 site "In Memory" section to let our class site members know of his passing.
Rest in Peace, Charlie
Chuck Hughes
