Ryan Ransdell Obituary

Ryan Garrett Ransdell Ryan Garrett Ransdell was born December 10, 1972 in Decatur, Illinois in the middle of the most beautiful ice storm. He grew up surrounded by friends, soccer fields, ball parks, his school and church. He moved with his mom and brothers to New Orleans and finished high school, relocating to Baton Rouge to attend LSU, making and keeping friends through all these years. Ryan's biggest move was to Austin, he ended up as an extra in a couple of films and his big thrill was working with Mike Judge playing the part of "Clevon" in the movie "Idiocracy." His next adventure was starting his construction business. Ryan died the morning of December 5, 2010 from injuries sustained in a tragic car accident, waiting for him were his Grandpa Ransdell and Papa Overstreet. Ryan is survived by his mother, Deborah Ransdell of Austin; his father, Gary and wife, Janet of Decatur; his brothers, Philip (Cathy) and Rhett (Nora), all of Houston; grandmothers, Letha Ransdell and Marjorie Overstreet and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Ryan's love of life and amazing sense of humor will be so missed. Ryan will always be in the hearts of all his dear friends and family! In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in honor of Ryan. Condolences may be made at www.cookwaldenforestoaks.com.

Ragsdale as we referred to him was one in a million. Full of life. Fearless. I think about him often. Its been 9 years and hell just pop in my head. He was a good friend. One of my favorite memories was in 2001 and LSU was going to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. A bunch of us were going to the game and I had an extra ticket. Benton said see if Ryan wants to go. So I asked him and he hemmed and hawed about he didnt know if it would be any fun and blah blah blah and we wound up having the most amazing time ever. So we were at the game and Ryan was having the best time and Benton and I looked at each other and then looked at him and said you aint having a good time give me that ticket back and we all just started laughing. Miss you Ryan.

I grew up just a stone's throw from your house on Ridge Lane, on Ridgeway Drive. I'm not sure if any of you would remember me now, as I was a little older than even the eldest Ransdell son. But I remember seeing you all around in the "hood" countless times in those days. (My goodness, I think Deb and Gary were daily fixtures on the SS Park tennis courts!) And you all were always kind to me. I am sorry to have to be writing this at this time, but want you all to know my thoughts are with you at this time of deep loss. Ryan certainly lived a wonderful life and enriched the lives of countless others. Be proud, thankful and never stop loving.

Christine Musso-Rotolo

December 9, 2010

Mrs. Deborah, there are no comforting words to give a mother when she has lost a child. I cannot imagine your pain at this time. Ryan always gave life and laughter to any moment or to any people he was with. He loved you so very much, and told me numerous times of what a strong woman he thought you were after moving to New Orleans. I know that Ryan would not want your heart to hurt right now, but we all know that is something impossible. Ryan lived a life surrounded at all times by people who loved him very much. He will be missed. I could go on and on of all of the cheerleading memories made at Louisiana Tech. He was so funny. He literally made every single practice something to look forward to, just because you knew Ryan would be there doing something hysterical. Although he got us in (fun) trouble with the coach quite often, it was always worth it in the end for some reason. And she always just shook her head at us as though to say, "What in the world am I going to do with you?". I will send prayers your way as long as I am here. Be comforted in knowing that we have an amazing and loving Father in heaven that gave His only son, so that we all have a place saved by His side. You will see Ryan again one day, I promise.
With all my sympathy,

Christine Musso Rotolo

I never had the pleasure to meet Ryan personally, but my son Justin Taylor, talked of Ryan quite frequently. He always spoke of Ryan's zest for life and how many lives he seemed to touch. He also mentioned that no matter how rough things seemed to get, you would never know Ryan had a care in the world. Based on Justin's narrative to his Mom, I feel as though Ryan touched my life also. As a mother of a son so close in age, I can only offer my sincerest and deepest sympathy for you and your family during this difficult time.
