Samuel L. (Sam) Emrick Samuel L. (Sam) Emrick died of bladder cancer on May 1, 2005, in Austin, Texas. Sam was born October 30, 1957, in Belpre, Ohio, to Samuel and Barbara Emrick. He married Val Spencer on June 11, 1978, in Belpre, Ohio. He graduated for Ohio State University with a bachelor degree in Computer Science Engineering. Sam worked for IBM Corporation for 23 years at various worldwide locations, most recently Austin, Tex. Sam was actively involved in the Austin Society of Karate where he was a 2nd degree black belt and a head instructor. Sam enjoyed watching his students grow. Sam is survived by his wife, Val; son, Sammy Emrick, both of Austin; mother, Barbara and step-father Jerry Justice of Ripley, W. Va.; sister, Rhonda and husband Roy Walker of Marietta, Ohio. A Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, with a Memorial Service to start at 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to my boyhood church, Rising Sun Church, c/o Rev. Creed Pursley, Route 1, Box 353, Ripley, WV 25271.
