Shirley Dunston Obituary

Shirley J. Butler Dunston Shirley J. Butler Dunston, REALTOR, of Austin died from complications of cancer on February 17, 2012. Her strong faith in God guided her as she left this world peacefully from her home. She was born in Casey, KY to Ben W.and Janie M. Graves. She grew up in Lansing, MI where she had a second family at Bethany Baptist Church. A no nonsense person until she wasn't, Shirley taught her daughters Teri (Teresa) Edmiston, Kelly Sunderlin, Cate (Catherine) Miller Sitton, and Mary Ann Hyde to take care of business, love thunderstorms and see the glass as half full. She was the biggest fan of her grandchildren Christopher, Michael, Nicole and Ian; a loving sister to Peggy, Brenda, Cynthia and Susan (who says Shirl always made the mistake of thinking she was the wisest just because she was the oldest); a loving aunt to many neices and nephews; as well as a generous friend and gracious hostess to new and life-long friends. As a member of the Austin Board of Realtors for more than 30 years, Shirley took pride in her ability to find just the right home for her clients who often times became her friends. Over the years her volunteer work in the community allowed her to share with those less fortunate than she. Her family wishes to thank those who helped her walk through her illness with dignity, most especially her friends and neighbors, her little dog Barney, her compassionate aides, and Hospice Austin. A memorial service, followed by an open house, is planned for Saturday February 25, 2012. In lieu of flowers please consider charitable contributions to Hopsice Austin, the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
