Thomas Edgell Obituary

Thomas Wendell Edgell Thomas Wendell Edgell, 67, passed away October 21, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. He was born December 21, 1940 to Edward Wendell and Vera Nyquist Edgell in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Tom attended Johnson High School in St. Paul. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in business, and went on to have a successful career at 3M. In 1988 he moved his family to Austin, continuing to work at 3M until he retired in 1997, after 35 years of service.

Over the years Tom was a past President/Board Member of the 3M Quarter Century Club, past President/Board Member of Kiwanis of Austin, belonged to Toastmasters, and was a longtime member of Balcones Country Club. He participated in Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and many other local charities. Upon his retirement he continued on as an avid golfer and dedicated himself to the many charities and organizations close to his heart.

Tom is survived by his bride of 43 years, Alvina (Babe); son, Bryan and wife Adriane; daughter, Julia and husband James Richards; his beloved grandchildren, Hannah and Hudson Edgell; his brother, David and wife Nancee of White Bear Lake, MN; sister, Karen Irestone of Woodbury, MN; as well as nieces, nephews, his extended family and his many, many dear friends.

Tom lived his life with passion and fortitude; without fear or ill will. He believed in doing whatever it took to get the job done. But most of all, Tom loved people; he loved helping others and there will never be another man like him. Always the optimist, he didn't believe in problems, only opportunities for solutions.

Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26th at Triumphant Love Lutheran Church (TLLC), 9508 Great Hills Trail. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Kiwanis of Austin, Hospice of Austin, or the TLLC Resurrection Garden fund. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Austin for their compassion during this difficult time, and to his many friends and well wishers for keeping Tom and his family in their prayers.

I worked with Tom for many years and have so enjoyed seeing him as a volunteer at the 3M Club children's events. I'll miss his smiling face. I'm sorry to have missed his service.

We never expected Dad would have to leave us so soon. He taught us so much about compassion, patience, and attitude, and we will miss him dearly.
