Vallie Hughes Obituary
Vallie Myers Hughes passed away in Kyle, Texas, on January 16, 2025. She was born on December 2, 1950, in Austin, Texas, where she attended Reilly Elementary, Baker Junior High, and McCallum High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rick Hughes; her parents, Bob and Inez Myers; her sister, Sally Myers Laurence; and her brother, Gene Myers.
Vallie leaves behind her children and their families: daughter Jana Maloy Owen, husband Chris, and granddaughters Olivia, Jessa, and Lela of Buda; son Jeffrey Balkman and wife Cinnamon of Dripping Springs; son Jason Balkman, wife Amanda, and grandsons Adam and Zachary of New Braunfels; and stepdaughters Julie and Jennifer Balkman of San Marcos. She is also survived by her brother Robert Myers, sister-in-law Pat Myers, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Vallie prioritized her role as a mother above all else. She started her family early and devoted her life to being a good mother -- and she was the very best mother. She loved her children above all. A strong and independent woman, she built a successful career, following it to Colorado with her sons before eventually making her way back home to Austin. She faced all that life handed her with grace and bravery, always finding the positive in every situation.
Vallie loved a good cup of black coffee, eating Tex-Mex, and beating everyone at a game of Scrabble. She made a great chicken-fried steak and the best chili con queso. She prided herself on having a beautiful yard and loved planting new flowers each spring. More than anything, she created the most magical Christmas mornings for her kids and grandkids, filling their lives with love and cherished memories. Nothing made her happier than seeing her grandkids smile.
During her final days, Vallie was clear in her desire to reunite with her loved ones in heaven. Though we were not ready to let her go, she was ready. Mom, your legacy of love lives on. This world was so much more beautiful when you were here.
