Vicki Henry Obituary

Vicki Lynn Rabensburg Henry, 79, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, June 23, 2025. Vicki was born in Bastrop, Texas to Lena Evelyn Schanhals and Carl George "Sonny" Rabensburg on June 15, 1946. She was welcomed by her older brother Carl George "Bubba" Rabensburg, Jr. and later joined by younger brother Joseph "Joe" Hasler Rabensburg. Independent and feisty from a young age, Vicki broke all the expected molds and was more of a tomboy than a "girly girl" who loved helping her father with the horses and cattle. She was especially fond of her beloved Wanda, a palomino mare which she raised and rode in parades and rodeos in and around central Texas for many years. At the age of eight, Vicki's and her family's world was forever changed by the unexpected passing of her father Sonny. Through support of strong extended family and close family friends, Vicki was able to continue riding and participating with Wanda in events she loved while her mother Lena worked tirelessly to sustain the family.

Growing up, Vicki was incredibly active and gifted in both sports and academics. She excelled in school and graduated as salutatorian of Bastrop High School Class of 1964. She furthered her education in college, spending one semester at Long Beach State University in California, one semester at Baylor University in Waco, and ultimately transferring to the University of Texas in Austin. She graduated in 1968 with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Business. Vicki returned to Bastrop and took a job teaching Algebra and Geometry and coaching tennis and basketball at Bastrop High School. During her nearly 40-year teaching tenure at Bastrop High School and later simultaneously at Austin Community College, Vicki shared her passion for math with countless students and helped many of them overcome fears to succeed in the subject she loved. She also coached several male and female tennis players to the state tournament for Bastrop High School as Vicki was quite skilled in the sport. She played tennis recreationally herself well into adulthood.

As fate would have it, in her first teaching year at Bastrop High School in 1968, Vicki met the love of her life, Boyd Wayne Henry, a young, new coach also at BHS. Their love progressed quickly, and they married on February 22, 1969, which was the only free weekend between Vicki's basketball season and Boyd's track season. Although quick to start, their union endured the test of time as Boyd and Vicki were married for over 56 years at the time of her death. Boyd and Vicki welcomed a daughter Jessica Brooks in 1976 and a son Jacob Boyd in 1980. Brooks and Jacob were their pride and joy, and they supported them in every way possible. Their love and encouragement contributed to both Brooks's and Jacob's successes in their young lives and helped to set the stage for their professional achievements as adults. In 2009, Vicki and Boyd became grandparents as Brooks welcomed a son, Evan Wayne Anderson. Vicki and Boyd doted on Evan and traveled to watch and support his many endeavors over the years, predominantly sports, especially golf. Prior to her death, Vicki was also aware and excited for the coming birth of her second grandson, Breken James McIlvain, who is expected in a few weeks.

Vicki was small in stature, but big in personality and confidence no matter the situation. Her love for people and her ability to communicate opened many doors and touched many lives. Vicki loved her family, her faith, her friends, her profession, and her yard. Gardening, especially in her retirement years, was a significant and passionate pastime. Vicki loved to spend time tending to all her plants, especially her roses. Anyone in Bastrop who knew her can attest to her amazing "green thumb" and beautiful yard. Vicki had an amazing and unique ability to take a clipping of a plant from almost anywhere, stick it in the ground, and have it thrive. Vicki loved plants and flowers. May you think of her whenever you see beautiful plants and blooming flowers.

Vicki is survived by her husband Boyd Wayne Henry, daughter Brooks Anderson McIlvain and son-in-law Kevin McIlvain, son Jacob Henry, grandson Evan Anderson, brother Carl "Bubba" Rabensburg and his wife Julie, and brother Joe Rabensburg. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to all the relatives and friends who have supported Vicki and the family in the last few years as her physical health declined due to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). They are especially thankful for the exceptional and loving care of the staff at HomeSteady Assisted Living in Spring, Texas over the past 18 months. Their care was a heaven-sent blessing that provided comfort to Vicki and peace of mind to the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Vicki's memory to Bastrop's Calvary Episcopal Church and/or School or to CurePSP.org.
