I was just informed of this tragic news of my psychiatrist, Dr Anand.

He has been my doctor for the past 2-3 years and first time I had a male psych doctor. Dr Anand made me feel comfortable first time I met him. Over the years, he listened and cared for me. He knew just what medications to prescribed and/or experiment. This is devastating for his family and his patients. He will be missed.
My condolences to his loved ones.

I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Anand speak when he came to a class I was taking at UT this fall. He was so generous both with his time and knowledge, kind, empathic, and incredibly engaging. Even in the short time I spent in his presence, it was clear that he was a gift to his patients, his colleagues, his students and his family. I'm so sorry for your loss, and so grateful that I had the honor of learning from him. What a horrible loss for everyone.

I am so profoundly grateful that Vishal was in my life and on my team. He gave us the gift of grace, diligence, compassion, and intelligence in all that he did. His presence is still so strongly felt. I hope to carry on with his goal of helping our veterans heal from their traumas and reclaim their lives, using all that he has taught me. When someone who has touched so many lives passes, they are never really gone but instead live on in each of us. Thank you, Vishal. And we are here for you, Nordeli (and Isis and Otis).

Dear Dr Estronza

I am in deep shock still and pray to God that he gives you the strenght to deal with this tragic loss.I will always love and cherish the memories I have of working with him as a resident in Roanoke.
I still remember the last conversation which I had with him before he left for Austin ,and I told him we might move there too and he asked me to keep in touch if we did so.He was one of the most talented individuals I had ever seen,a very kind person and admired by almost everyone who ever had a chance to interact with him.May God bless him

It is hard to know what to say in the face of such tragedy. I found the following words: "What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word. We may not understand why he left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived." His life gave many people many memories too beautiful to forget. May your memories give you strength. I feel privileged to have known him. Peace, prayers and blessings to you in this difficult time.

Dearest Nordeli,
You should look upon physical and mental suffering as gifts from God.They bring their own lessons of the futility of the passing and of the intrinsic worth of the eternal.
Do not get disheartened and alarmed when adversity, calamity and misfortune pour in upon you.Thank God, for HE has thereby given you the opportunity of acquiring forbearance and fortitude. Those who have acquired the power of bearing with adversities, can easily enter the spiritual path.
Do not fear suffering or blame anyone for it. According to the Law that governs the universe, all suffering is your labour of love to unveil your REAL SELF.In comparison to the infinite Bliss you experience on attaining the "I- am- God -State"all the suffering and agonies you go through amount to practically nothing. As Meher Baba said,"whatever your apparent calamities and transient sufferings, they are but the outcome of my Love for the ultimate good."
Nordeli , you are in my daily prayers and i know for sure that HE will shower HIS Divine grace on you and help you tread this challenging path with ease.My dearest brother Vishal is already in HIS care, so don't worry and be happy sweety.Take care of yourself,Veena chachi and Pavan as you have always done.
We will always be an integral part of your life till our last breath, that is a promise.Jai Meher Baba.Kindly accept our deepest condolences.

Nordeli,

You and Vishal have been wonderful friends. Always caring, always giving,
always there for everyone that came to you for support. It was six months ago that you were telling me words of encouragement and support after the passing of my dad. What would I know that not too long after I would be the one saying those words back to you? I know how much you love Vishal and how much he loves you, that love will for always be there. Vishal has transitioned to a different place, but
he will always be with you. There is no pain, no suffering, no struggle on the other side. We miss the ones
that passed, we miss their smile, their voice, their touch, but always remember my dear friend, that
when you love someone you want what's best for them, and Vishal is in the best place and with the best
company there could be: with God in Heaven.

God bless you both.

I am deeply saddened by your loss. Vishal was the best outgoing student of our batch of T. N. Medical School, Mumbai. He will always be remembered by all as a very kind hearted soul. He was excellent speaker, good at his work and studies, had the best personality, even handwriting! And yet had only good words for others. He was always helpful and good sport during internship. From the days of anatomy dissection to medical clinics and trips to Wadia (of course in Vishal’s car), every day is a clear memory of the wonderful time we all had during our MBBS and internship. I only miss that I have not been in touch since….
Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.

It is with great sadness that I sign this guest book. Dr. Vishal Anand was my friend and my colleague at the Salem VA Medical Center and I will miss him very much.
Vishal was a psychiatrist’s psychiatrist. He was excellent at all he did. He was an outstanding interviewer and communicator. I have never met anyone who could communicate about his patients more completely and accurately than Vishal. His documentation was impeccable. In addition, he was a superb teacher. In our world so troubled by forensic psychiatry issues, he was such an important force in bringing understanding of these issues to our psychiatry residents and program.
Thanks for sharing these photos. They say to me that Vishal and Nordeli lived a love story. The love shared was overflowing and it was wonderful to be in their company. May these photos and those memories be warm companions for you, Nordeli.
Vishal spoke often of his family in Bombay. I never met his mother, but know that he spoke so fondly of you. My heart is with you as you mourn your son’s untimely passing.
Dr. Anand also had many patients who sought comfort in his care and treatment. I know we must be open to hear their grief at this time as well.
Bill and I and our boys extend our condolences to you, Nordeli. We wish so much we could be there for today’s Memorial Service. Knwo that we are there in spirit, and that you and Vishal’s family remain in our thoughts and prayers.
May God hold you all in the loving palm of His hand, today and always.

January 15, 2011

Dear Nordeli,

I really have no words to express my feelings over your unexpected and tragic loss.. I have known you and Vishal for last 2 years. I always admired and cherished the love and affection you shared with each other. I remember all the conversations Vishal would have with us during lunch at work and I always admired his knowledge, articulation and perseverance and care for his patients. He will be truly missed. May God give you and your family and your dogs too the strength to bear this loss and remain strong in the face of this crisis.
I know that you are a strong person and one of those who count their blessings in times of sorrow and cherish the happy memories you had with Vishal.
Please be assured that you can count on us in your time of sorrow.
God Bless you!!

Nordeli, there are no words to convey how very sorry and sad I am for your loss of Vishal. I was privileged to know him through his work at MHA of Roanoke as the kind and wonderful man and psychiatrist who helped so many and always had a smile for all of us. He loved you dearly and never missed a chance to brag to me about his wonderful wife. I have missed you as my neurologist and friend since you and he and your beloved dogs left Roanoke for a warmer climate. I know your heart is broken. May you find peace and solace in the days ahead. There are so many of us who are thinking of you.

Vishal was a great friend to me. He was a much admired senior at medical school and our entire class looked up to him for helpful hints on how to make it through medical school. Vishal was one of the most down to earth and helpful people that I knew in school.

Later, I reconnected with Vishal when I came to Syracuse to do my residency. I will never forget the kindness with which Vishal received me and he even put me up in his apartment for a month when I got there. Vishal was a wise older brother to me. He never held back his smiles and we shared many hearty laughs. I still remember his shy smile when he told me that he was dating a neurology resident named Nordelli.

I recently got back in touch with Vishal and was so looking forward to seeing him again after many years. I am truly saddened by the loss of one of the most liked, kindest and gifted people that I know. I will always keep a place for him in my heart and try to remember his sage advice and philosophy of giving everything to what one does.

To a life well lived from one of the many hearts that you touched. May you rest in peace Vishal!

Vishal was one of the nicest and professionally most competent persons I have known.

I first met him when he agreed to speak to my trauma class at UT last summer on the topic of treating combat vets. I was amazed at how well prepared he was, how well he spoke, how valuable the information was that he imparted, his kind and gentle tone, his humility and humor, and his generosity. My students and I agreed that his talk was by far the highlight of the semester.

Vishal unselfishly agreed to speak to my fall class, too, and his presentation and reaction by students were of the same quality. I was so thankful and impressed after that when he agreed to speak to my class every semester in the future.

I was shocked and heartbroken to learn of his passing. What a horrible, tragic loss for his family, his patients, and us all.

Dear Dr. Anand:

You are a great inspiration in my life, to be the person I'm today. You are the BEST teacher, and a supra-competent Psychiatrist. Doctors of your caliber are rare, and it was my privilege to learn medicine under your tutelage. I'm an ardent admirer of your writing skills, analytical abilities, and interviewing style. I referred to your notes innumerable times, even after graduation. The skills I learnt from you continue to exert a dynamic force into my everyday practice. You are an extremely compassionate soul, and immaculate in everything that you did. You are a sweet and precious gift of God to patients, students, residents, colleagues, friends, and family. Words cannot convey my emotions at this time. Vishal was a great guy. I have such fond memories of being around the two of you in Roanoke. We never seemed to get that visit made to Austin.

Nordeli, you are and have been such a special, sweet friend to me. I treasure our relationship. May our God watch over you and give you the peace and understanding that only He can provide.

Love to you, Beth (and Louie)
