Weldon FARRIS Obituary

FARRIS,

Weldon Wilton "Al"

Weldon Wilton (Al) Farris, 84, of Cedar Creek, Texas passed away on Nov. 19, 2014.

He was born March 15, 1930 in Nocona, Texas to Glen George and Jewel Farris. In 1946 the Farris family moved to western Oklahoma to farm cotton. Al graduated from high school in Port, OK in 1948. As a young man, Al liked to drive the tractor and help his Dad in the cotton field. Al enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. While stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, Al met Edith Bates and they were married on Sept. 7, 1956. In 1967, when Al returned from serving in Viet Nam, they moved their family to Austin. Al retired from the Air Force in 1973 after 21 years of service. Al also worked in Civil Service and retired from that job in 1992 when Bergstrom AFB started closing down.

Al was a man of many talents. He was a good carpenter and mechanic and even built and flew an Ultralight airplane in the 1990's. He was intelligent and curious. When something needed fixed around the place he could usually fix it. Al and Edith enjoyed having a garden every year. Al was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ.

AL was predeceased by his parents, his sister Lavern and his brother David. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Edith, three children, Wayne Farris (Denise), Pamela Young (Bill), John Farris (Connie), four grandchildren, Chad English (Rebecca), Deane Young, Logan Farris and Lindsey Farris. Also a brother, Tommy Farris and a sister Goldia Ward.

A visitation will take place from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sunday November 23, 2014 at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin. The service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday November 24, 2104 at Southwest Church of Christ in Austin. Burial will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park Cemetery.
