William Clift Obituary

William (Bill) Alexander Clift, 73, of Austin, TX, passed away at home in his sleep on May 28, 2024, supported by his daughter Brook Davis, granddaughter Imani Davis, and brother and sister-in-law Robert and Diane Clift. He is preceded by his wife Sigrid of forty-eight years. Bill found extreme fulfillment as a husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, grandfather, and friend. His quick wit and generous spirit will remain in the memory of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on May 9, 1951, in Huntsville, AL, where he was also raised, Bill often spoke about his childhood and shared countless stories about his adventures in Boy Scouts, YMCA activities, team sports, and his many, many wonderful friends. He especially cherished the hunting and fishing trips to his grandparents Bill and Doris Alexander's summer cabin on the Tennessee River.

As a young adult, Bill proudly served in the United States Army and after, moved to Austin, TX with Sigrid where he lived the last five decades of his life. As a successful entrepreneur, he traveled extensively throughout the United States. His numerous and lively tales about his favorite and frequently visited places included San Francisco, Lake Oswego, Boulder, Minneapolis, and Lake Geneva.

Bill's passion for the Crimson Tide began at a young age, attending his first Alabama game with his grandfather and father at nine years old. Later in life, as an original Tide Pride member, he traveled with friends and family to over two hundred regular season, bowl, and conference and national championship games. Other iconic sports events Bill was proud to attend included the "Greatest of All Time" World Series and in that same year, Super Bowl XXVI.

Living an active lifestyle in retirement, Bill enjoyed regular exercise, keeping up with the events of the day, and eating in Austin's many fine restaurants with family and friends. Although his illness was brief and unexpected, he was able to spend his last days at home with loved ones reflecting on his life, filled with incredible people and adventures.

A celebration of life luncheon will take place on Saturday, June 15 at Matt's El Rancho (2613 S. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX), a favorite of Bill's for over fifty years. To attend, arrival time by 10:45am is required.
