Willie Mae Delvige Morgan
Born January 29, 1921 to Will and Nannie Delvige in Lee County, near Lexington, Texas. She died February 27, 2021, peacefully at home with her children at her side. She grew up as a country girl near Lexington Texas in a loving Christian family. She graduated as Salutatorian from Lexington High School, in 1938.
Willie Mae loved her family and friends. She devoted her life to being a strong Christian witness, making sure everyone around her thrived. There was nothing she wouldn't do for someone in need and she never had an unkind word. As her girls were growing up, she sewed many an outfit for them; she had a green thumb and took pride in her plants; she was an avid reader and loved a good story; she loved to bake and try new recipes. In retirement, she and her husband, Ray, took many wonderful trips in the states and abroad. She never worried too much about making ends meet because she believed with all her heart that God would take care of her needs, and He always did. Her great smile, laughter and faith carried her day by day.
After her children were all in school, she spent twenty-two (22) years at Lee Junior College as the Executive Secretary and Office Manager to the Dean of Occupational Educational and Technology. During this time, Willie and Ray were members of the Goose Creek Order of Eastern Star #798 in Baytown, and Willie served as Worthy Matron.
In 1997, she and Ray moved back to Austin, to be near their three daughters and grandchildren. They quickly became members of Bannockburn Baptist Church. Willie was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class.
Willie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, husband of 63 years, and many dear friends. She is survived by her children; Barbara Ann Morgan and spouse Cynthia R. Johnson; Janice Marie Morgan; Linda Rae Morgan Sandlin and husband Larry Blake Sandlin; grandchildren, Christopher Blake Sandlin; Kasey J Sandlin and wife Anne Mahan. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Ruth Delvige and Dorothy Smith, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Asked by her granddaughter on her 100th birthday what words of wisdom she had, she answered, "Trust God." And do you have any tricks to your long and happy life, and she said, "I try to be truthful, honest, and kind to people." Mother lived her entire life ready and teaching to be ready to "go Home."
The family would like to remember the precious care given by Priscila Arteaga and Lynn Barnes. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Bannockburn Joy Sunday School Class, a food bank, library of your choice or Hospice Austin. Condolences may be sent to
