Jeannette "Carroll" Carnline
Jeannette "Carroll" Carnline, age 92, a 51-year resident of Chewelah, WA passed away on February 18, 2024 surrounded by her family in Colville, WA. Carroll was born on November 8, 1931 in Jerome, ID the daughter of Johnathan Carl and Emily Mae (Prentice) Ostler.
Carroll moved often with her family when she was young. They later settled into Hagerman, ID where Carroll finished her education and graduated in 1949. On Nov. 6, 1949 in Wendell, ID, she married a young service man named Johnnie Leroy Carnline. They began their life together in Great Falls, MT in a small camper trailer with no heat and an underbed refrigerator. They then moved to Memphis, TN where Johnnie was stationed. They began a family with the birth of their first child on April 9, 1951, a son they named, John Daniel "Danny". A year later they welcomed, their second child Fae. Danny passed suddenly at 18 months old and that next year, Jeannette Rhodes, their second daughter was born on Danny's birthday. It seemed that every few years they relocated to new communities, including Moses Lake, WA, Las Vegas, NV, Overton, NV and then to Ephrata where they ranched and raised livestock. Carroll assisted in the operation of the ranch, driving large trucks, maintaining livestock records, riding horseback on cattle drives and raising her growing family. Times grew tough and the ranch was lost. Their family moved to New Caney, TX to be near Johnnie's family. They would move again in 1973, this time to Chewelah where they planted roots and remained. Carroll worked in the home and was devoted to her family. Lovingly Carroll and Johnnie were given the nicknames "Idaho-Spud" and "Texas-Nut" and from their immense love for one another, this "Spud-Nut" couple watched their family grow… 9 children, 43 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
She was musically gifted and played the piano, organ, violin, accordion and sang in the church choirs ranging in size from large tabernacle and small town. She even sang at the 1974 Expo. She was the family chef, seamstress, barber, beautician and disciplinarian "Mama Bear". Protective, providing and prayerful, she watched over her family every day. When time allowed, Carroll enjoyed crochet, knitting, painting "tri-chem", and devoting extra care and service to others. When she went to town, she took pride in her appearance, with careful attention to fashion, style and the complimenting accoutrements. Carroll had a wonderful smile, warm spirit and worked diligently to serve the needs of others.
She was active in her church callings and had a love for her Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints faith.
Carroll was preceded in death by her son, Danny and her husband, Johnnie, daughter-in-law, Sharon Carnline and son-in-law, Richard Hoffman.
She is survived by her children, Fae Mason (Bob) of Tekoa, WA, Jeannette Rhodes (Ed) of Arden, Wa, Brian Carnline (LeeAnn) of Wenatchee, WA, Steve Carnline (Gilza) of Spokane, WA, Darrell Carnline of Deer Park, WA, Joel Carnline (Rosalie) of Colville, WA, Mavis Hoffman of Arden, WA, Terry Carnline (Pam) of Cashmere, WA, 43 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Donna Lybbert (Enoch) of New Mexico, Norma Lybbert (Kay) of Otis Orchards, WA; brother, Jack Ostler (Rosalin) of Hermiston, OR; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended family.
