Opal Matlock Obituary

Opal Emmaline (Carson) Matlock, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2015 with family at her side. Opal was born Feb. 26, 1929 to Olaf and Marie C. (Olson) Carson at Boyds. She attended grade school at Boyds and graduated from Marcus High School in 1948. Prior to marriage, she worked in Spokane at the Sunshine Bakery and also cooked for wheat harvest crews in central Washington.
Opal met her future husband, Bert F. Matlock, at a local dance. They were married Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Church in Colville. They began their life together on their ranch on Deadman Creek during which time all eight of their children where born. In the fall of 1967 they moved to their farm at Boyds. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage until Bert's passing in 2011. Opal was proud to be able to say, "I was born in Boyds, lived in Boyds all my life, and I will die in Boyds."
Opal dedicated her life to raising her family. She found great enjoyment in family gatherings and was happiest when she was surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Opal enjoyed quiet past-times of embroidery, hand-quilting, reading, collecting quotes, and watching the Mariner's games. Summertime found her out in her large vegetable and flower gardens. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and TOPS.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, and her husband.
She is survived by her sister, Tressia Anderson; her eight children, Stanley Matlock (Angela), Wesley Matlock, Christie Matlock, Valerie Richartz (Robert), Rodger Matlock (BaLinda), Joyce Frei (Brian), Lawrence Matlock, Keith Matlock (Colleen), 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Kettle Falls Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Colville, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
If one so wishes, memorial contributions can be made in Opal's name to the Kettle Falls Food Bank.

To the Matlock family,
I was saddened to hear of Opal's passing. I have known her for many years. She was a dear lady, always cheerful with a smile on her face. We will all miss her. I am so sorry not to be able to attend her service, but have obligations at that time, but want you all to know that Bob and I are thinking and praying for you at this difficult time of adjustment. She and Bert always supported Bob in his service as Senator of the 7th district and we have been grateful for their friendship over the years. Sincerely, Bob and Linda Morton.
