SALEM - Albert W. Toman, 90, born December 12, 1926, in Mill City, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in Salem. The son of Czechoslovakian immigrant parents, Albert and Julia Toman, Al grew up in Mill City, Oregon and graduated from Mill City High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944, and was stationed in San Francisco Bay. He was honorably discharged after a year to return home when his mom passed away, to help with the family business, a general store in Mill City. In 1947, Al married Halle Stevens from Lyons, Oregon. They were married for 66 years. They lived in Mill City until 1955, when they moved to Salem. Al worked in the grocery store business for a few years in Mill City, then moved to Salem and worked as a driver-salesman; one year for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, then about 15 years at Langendorf Bakeries, then retired after 15 years with Oroweat. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge, active with the Shriner's and Scottish Rite. As a Shriner, he participated by marching in parades all around the State. He was an active member and treasurer of Jason Lee United Methodist Church. Al and Halle enjoyed their cabin on the Santiam River. Al enjoyed dancing throughout his life, going square dancing and swing dancing socially. Most recently he attended dances regularly at the Salem Keizer Senior Center. He enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards, dining out and travel.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Halle Toman, and his son, Steven Toman. He is survived by his sister, Mildred Griffen, San Jose, California, son Bradley Toman, Salem, daughter Janet Toman, Gresham, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial is planned at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St. SE, Salem, OR, on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 2:00 PM. A private family interment will be set for a future date at Fox Valley Cemetery in Lyons, Oregon.
