Bruno Goerke Obituary

Bruno Goerke July 24, 1921 - December 3, 2009 SALEM - Our beloved "Opa"and "Pop" passed away peacefully at his home on December 3. He was born in Goldop, Germany to Gustof and Augusta Goerke on July 24, 1921. He was the youngest son of five siblings. Bruno was married to the love of his life, Herta Goerke, for 37 years until she passed away in 1981. Bruno and Herta moved from Germany to Oregon with their two children in 1952, but he forever longed to return to his beloved Deutschland. Bruno was a hardworking and talented stone mason by trade. He was a good, kind-hearted man that loved fishing at Detroit and spending time with his family. Having experienced many difficulties in his youth, he often showed caring and generosity to those in need. The many stories that he eagerly shared of his life experiences will be remembered by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bruno is survived by his daughter, Barbara (John) Morrison; and his son, Rudy (Jan) Goerke. He has four grandchildren, Amie (Adam) Wittenberg, Aaron (Heather) Goerke, Emily Goerke, and Julie (Jesse) Laird. He has five great-grandchildren, Austin and Claire Wittenberg, Hadley, Ruby and Rudy Goerke. Along with the many precious memories that we hold in our hearts, he will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family and friends. So for now, "Night, Pop!", Aufwiederse-hen, "Ich Liebe Dich." A viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 6 at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 7 at the Pratum Cemetery.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

I can still hear Bruno's laugh. He was always happy. He added cheer to our family gatherings. He was the only grandpa (Opa) our kids knew. We will miss him. We had an 88 year birthday dinner for Bruno this year and feared it may be the last. Oma Louise you were a huge part of his life for the last 24 years and I know this is a difficult time for you. We are praying for peace for you and Bruno's family. I love you!! Leanne
