David Haven Obituary

David Christopher Haven Dec. 21, 1952 - Nov. 16, 2010 SALEM, Ore. - David Christopher Haven, 57, passed away November 16 as the result of a hunting accident in Minnesota. He was born December 21, 1952, in Albany, Ore. to Everett and Joan Haven. He was the oldest of four children and the only son. His father was a logger which gave David many opportunities to work in the woods igniting a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter traveling far and wide to experience new terrains, customs and techniques. The old boys used to call him Ridgerunner. David spent much of his youth in Lebanon, Ore. He excelled in sports such as baseball, football and golf or in just about anything he put his mind to. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1971 then went on to LBCC earning an AA. He finished his college education graduating from Willamette University majoring in Sociology and Economics. Upon graduation, David started working for New York Life Insurance Co. It didn't take long before his realized that helping people achieve dreams for themselves and their families gave Dave a deep sense of accomplishment. He started "Haven Financial Services" and served his clients passionately for over 30 years. He saw many of the people he served as more than clients, also good friends. In 1974, Dave met Daryla Greene. They met on a blind date and were married the following year and for 35 thereafter. Their three children are, Tory, Cody and Allina Haven. Another joy in his life was his granddaughter, Abigail Haven. He was always so proud of his wife and children and a strong supporter in all their endeavors. He is survived by his children, his wife, his mother, Joan Haven (Arizona); and his sisters, Andrea Tufford (Arizona), Marcella Haven (Arizona), and Jeannie Moul (Seattle). David was preceded in death by his father, Everett Haven. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at St Paul's Episcopal Church, 1444 Liberty St. SE, Salem, Oregon.

Daryla and kids,
I want to express my deep sadness and sorrow for your loss. I remember all the times we shared as families, mainly camping and bar-b-cues, along with Dave's incredible knowledge of finances and his care with ours. We always went with Dave's recommendations and trusted his advice implicitly. He will be sorely missed and i'm so sorry we all fell out of touch.

Darya, Cody, Tory, Allaina, and Family,

We are so shocked and saddened to hear about Dave. Our hearts go out to you all and we are thinking of you at this time. Dave was such a good friend and so good to us with all of the financial 'wheeling and dealings". Usually our meetings and phone calls ended up with mostly hunting and sports stories. I/we feel that many times I/we lived vicariously through him and him through us. We will miss him dearly. Hopefully you will all stay strong and "hang tough" as he would want you and us to do. Again, with the greatest sympathy we send our love to all. God Bless.

I was introduced to Dave at a very difficult time financially. His ability to show me how to start saving for the future at a time that I had little money not only helped me financially, but more importantly, it helped me feel better about my life and helped get me going. His energy and skills have been greatly appreciated and I offer my deepest sympathy to his family for his loss. He was a very special man and will be greatly missed.

Daryla, Cody and family. There are no words to express how sorry I am. Dave was my financial planner and friend for 30+ years. He will be missed so much. When I lost my Terry it was Dave who was there for me. I wish there was something I could do for you and your family at this time. Perhaps in the future you can come for a vacation to Florida and stay with me. I am a good tour guide. Much Love, Sandy Oberg Swander

I enjoyed Dave's visits when he would come to get his hair cut, My father cut Dave's hair for many years, I was the lucky recipient after dad retired. We asked him last time he was in about his "Bear" that was at the taxidermist ,we had waited a long time to see it,he said it was almost done, he was very excited about it. He loved his wife and kids, and was wonderful to be around, always positive, He will be sorely missed. Nancy Houston

Was so very sorry to hear about David. He was always so kind to me and I enjoyed his wonderful upbeat personality. David was quick to help with a positive comment, motivational phone call or an invitation to join him and Cody and talk about our practice. I will miss him, his love for his family and his joy for life. One thing I know for sure, is that he loved his family so very much. God Bless you all.
