Douglas Erickson Obituary
April 11, 1950 - February 26, 2017
Salem - Douglas Bernard Erickson, 66 ended his 16 year battle with Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia on February 26, 2017. He was surrounded with the loving presence of his wife and daughter.
Doug was born to Kathleen and Harry Erickson, April 11, 1950 in Lebanon, Oregon. Living most of his formative years in Stayton. Doug's education took him to Laurelwood Academy, graduating in 1968; Walla Walla College in 1972; receiving his Doctorate of Medicine from Loma Linda University in 1975. Upon completing his specialty in Anesthesia at University of California Davis in 1979, he went on to become board certified in 1981.
Dr. Erickson began his practice in Salem in 1979, spanning over 20 years and ending with his diagnosis. He was an avid backpacker, mountain climber and all-round outdoorsman and enjoyed many hours working in his yard.
Doug was a dedicated doctor, always willing to take on an "extra case," a generous and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan; daughter, Elizabeth Nelson; grandson, Liam Nelson; brother, Greg Erickson and sister, Lori Deaton.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, April 15th at the East Salem Seventh-day Adventist Church 5575 Fruitland Road NE Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions in Dr. Erickson's name be directed to the OSHU Foundation in support of Parkinson's Disease Research 1121 SW Salmon St. Suite 100 Portland, OR 97205. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

I worked in the Operating room for many years. My job was to manage the desk including adding cases and often assigning cases to anesthesiologists. Dr. Erickson was always pleasant and accepted what came down the line. Always a gentleman! On my fortieth birthday he gave me 5 cards wishing me happy 40th....they were all unsigned so I could reuse them for my other 40 year old friends...lol...so much fun, always had a smile. So sorry for the loss of a wonderful man.
