Ferne Kailey Obituary

SHELTON, WA - Ferne B. Kailey a resident of Shelton, Wash., died on April 24, 2005 at the age of 88. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1916 in Smith County, Kan., to Henry and Alma (Francisco) Plank. Ferne graduated from Franklin High School in Franklin, Neb. After getting married to Byron Davis `Bud' Kailey on Sept. 20, 1936, she moved to Missoula, Mont., and then settled in Coos Bay, Ore. Ferne also lived in Pendleton, Hermiston, Albany, and Salem. She has lived in Shelton for 4 years at Maple Glen Assisted Living. Ferne worked as a medical receptionist for 20 years in Hermiston and Albany, and retired as a Determination Specialist for Worker's Compensation at the State of Oregon in Salem, Ore. Ferne loved to travel and spent many winters in Arizona. She enjoyed flowers, mountains, fishing and knitting. She was an avid reader who also was very good at crossword puzzles. She is survived by 3 children, John (Jan) Kailey of Bend, Susan (Jack) Donahue of Shelton, Wash., and Kate McIntosh of Tacoma, Wash.; sisters, Joyce Patterson and Donna Seibert of Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Please make memorial donations to the charity of your choice. There will be no services held at the decedent's request. The family is being served by McComb Funeral Home.
