Florence and Julius Mohr

Portland - Florence Alida Mohr, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Hopewell House in Portland, joining her husband, Julius Charles Mohr, age 95, who passed away quietly two weeks earlier on December 19, 2018 at their son's home in Tigard, Oregon. The couple celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on November 7, 2018 at Edgewood Point, and were surrounded by family and friends as they navigated a series of health conditions late last year.

Julius was born in Wilcox, Nebraska to Henry and Katharine Mohr on August 14, 1923. He served in the US Army during WWII from February 16, 1943-December 26, 1945 as PFC in the 188th Parachute Infantry, 11th Airborne Division, where he was awarded a Silver Star for his gallantry in action. Julius was preceded in death by his sister Deloris and brothers Lawrence and Alvin. Florence was born in Mount Angel, Oregon to George and Emma Willig on January 24, 1926. She worked as a horticulturist at nurseries near their Albany home before the couple retired to Senior Estates in Woodburn, Oregon. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Julius and sisters Viola, Irene, and Leona. The couple is survived by Julius' brother Myron(Nancy), Florence's sister Violet, their son Steven(Mammy), and five grandchildren: Jennifer(Tom), Tony, Stephanie(Miles), Ken, Spy, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Florence and Julius will be honored in a joint service at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday, January 25th at 9:30am. There will be a joint memorial service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Woodburn on Saturday, January 26th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopewell House by writing a check to Good Samaritan Foundation (PO Box 4484, Portland OR, 97208) and specifying Hopewell House on the memo line.
