Gary Dallman Obituary
May 2, 1940 - June 1, 2014
Gary J. Dallman, Sr., 74 years old, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014. His loving wife Katie Dallman was by his side in their Salem home.
Gary was born in Payette, Idaho on May 2, 1940 to Cecil and Hilda Dallman. He attended South Salem High School where he excelled in football and baseball. He later retired from a successful career in the railroad industry. Gary loved spending time in the outdoors. He was especially drawn to the Oregon Coast. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and telling a good story to his family.
Gary was preceded in death by his son Richard (Rick). He is survived by his children: Gary J. Dallman, Jr (Donna), Brent Dallman (Shari), Jeff Dallman, and Tiffany Hutchison (Chris); his grandchildren, Brock, Kate, Shane, Trevor, Carl, Hayley, Cord, Joel, Gwen, Isabelle, Tyler and Jeffrey. Gary's extended family includes children: David Exe, Robert Exe, Scott Smith and grandchildren, Cody, Brooke, Carly, Kayla and Shayla.
Services will be held at a private family ceremony. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral service.

On the Corvallis Local, many years ago

To say that he had a successful career in the railroad industry does not really say enough. Gary worked for Willamette & Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads. He was the conductor on the Corvallis Local when I met him. He trained many new hires in the art of car handling and railroading; I was fortunate to have been one of those students. He was the best car handler, smooth & never hurried. He drew his own 'bigger picture' when he switched cars. Once, while switching cars in Corvallis yard, he walked over the the south #2 switch and lined it. I asked him why and he said, 'I will need it tomorrow.' Belatedly, rest in peace, Gary.
