Gary Wolfard Obituary

Gary Lee Wolfard

July 3, 1938 - July 24, 2017

Silverton - Gary Lee Wolfard passed away on July 24, 2017 at home in the presence of his loving wife. Gary is survived by his wife Joyce of nearly 58 years; two children Jan, (Mike) Long, Bill, (Maria) Wolfard; six grandchildren, Kristi (Craig) Walter, Ryan (Melissa) Gengler, Katie Gengler, Brad Gengler, Garrett (Kristina) Wolfard, Blake Wolfard; and four great-grandchildren. Born on July 3, 1938, Gary lived a passionate life filled with travel, fixing old Chevy's with his son, raising horses and caring for his family. As the town barber for over 54 years, Gary had many friends in the town of Silverton where he was born and raised. He was a dedicated Catholic, member of the Elks Lodge and the "Fly Wheels" group of Silverton. Gary was the most loving, dedicated father and husband a family could ask for; he will be missed and forever in our hearts.

A Rosary service will be on Wednesday, July 26th at 6:00pm and the funeral on Thursday, July 27th at 11:00am. Both services held at St Paul's Catholic Church (1410 Pine St, Silverton, OR 97381). The family invites all who knew Gary to attend both services.

I knew Gary for so many years, and always enjoyed talking with him. He was hilarious, smart, witty, and was so fun to talk with. Getting a haircut was secondary to getting the scoop on what was going on in town. He wasn't gossipy. He just knew stuff! My deepest sympathy to Joyce, Jan, and Bill, and all those who loved him. He was a kind and funny character. Oh, yeah. The haircuts were great, too!

Gary was such a class act- knowledgeable, funny, helpful, and a heck of a barber! A great guy who knew how to tell a great story and he had a lot of them! You will be missed...

Joyce, Jan and BillI am so very sorry for your loss. Gary was always such a great man. Growing up, we would walk by the barber shop and he would always have a wave and a kind word for us kids. Then as teenagers, spending time at your house he was such a good influence on us. He will always be remembered for his smile and his love for family and friends. I pray you find peace in knowing he is not in pain and that he is in heaven watching down on you, protecting you from above. He was likely welcomed in heaven by my mom. I know she was so fond of you Joyce. Jan and Bill it is so tough to lose a parent. I won't say it gets easier, you just learn to live with the missing piece of your heart. Your family will be in my prayers as you maneuver through this difficult time. With love

Gary was truly an icon in Silverton. My memories extend back the better part of my life, to the times where there were several barbers, and the only reason we wouldn't go to his shop, was if he was gone, and we couldn't wait another week. Gary's Barber Shop was always a landmark if you will. Gary, may your soul rest in Heavenly Peace! Sincere condolences to all the family.
