George Milo Obituary

George Andrew Milo

July 4, 1935 - April 1, 2015

George Andrew Milo was born in Queens, New York, to Salvatore and Beatrice Milo. At an early age, he taught himself to paint, then turned that passion into the love of piano. He became a piano player who could hear a song once, then play it. He turned his love for piano into a career of performance, playing the piano for admiring crowds, tuning pianos by ear, and teaching piano lessons.

After meeting his wife, Patricia Longstreet, he moved from New York to Boulder City, Nevada, and worked playing piano in Las Vegas. He was in Vegas during the era of classic movie stars and Liberace. Liberace requested him as a piano tuner and George had the pleasure of meeting an interesting performer that he admired. He later had his daughter, Ida, before moving from Nevada to Portland, Oregon in 1976. He lived in Portland, continuing his love for piano, where he had his two boys, Ronald and Walter. Throughout some of the years in Portland, George had his three children sing while he played piano, and volunteered his talents at retirement homes and nursing facilities. He truly encouraged his family to spread the love of music.

In 1989, he moved to Bend to continue his piano playing, tuning, and teaching. He continued to play and share his gift of music. In 2011, George moved to Salem with his wife to be closer to family. Soon after, he lost his wife and dealt with getting back into life. George got back into life vigorously. He played piano again and enjoyed his family and grandchildren with a new passion for life. George always had a sense of humor and he kept it through to the end. He leaves behind his daughter: Ida Lafky (Kevin), grandson: Chase Lafky, son: Ronald Milo (Melissa), granddaughter: Olivia Milo, and son: Walter Milo. A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held April 19th.

Was a student in the early 90"s in Bend, Oregon. He would come and play at Bend Villa Court where I was general manager. Would like to get a hold of some of his recordings. My one and only tape broke. He has been my inspiration and have now taken up lessons again at age 76. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you , Julie
