Marcella Westphal Obituary

Marcella M. Westphal

August 13, 1932 - October 11, 2013

Our dear Mother went to be with the Lord on the evening of October 11, 2013 surrounded by her children and grandchildren who loved her so dearly.

Marcella Marie Gudenschwager was born on August 13, 1932 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin to Herbert and Helen Gudenschwager. Our parents were united in marriage in Reedsburg on August 30, 1952. Two children were born of this marriage, Jeannine Marshall-O'Brien (Tom) and Daniel Westphal (Sandra) who both live in Salem. Her two grandchildren, Mykael and Christopher Westphal were truly the apple of her eye.

Marcella Westphal worked hard her entire life, never asking for anything. She was a very simple lady that just had so much love to give to all those around her. Her younger adult life was devoted to living and working the Wisconsin dairy farm where she enjoyed her Jersey herd very much. The entire family made the move to Oregon in the spring of 1981, settling into the Salem countryside. For over 30 years, she was a rural Statesman-Journal newspaper carrier through every kind of weather. She prided herself greatly in providing the best service possible to all her customers over all those years, retiring in August 2012.

Marcella will be so missed by all that knew her. Marcella passionately loved her country. She was very patriotic. She also loved working in her garden, flowers, her greenhouse, and loved spending time with her entire family more than anything in the entire world. She especially enjoyed peaceful early mornings, watching the sunrise. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, taking walks, and so loved her pets, many that she has now re-joined once again in Heaven.

In addition, she is survived by her husband of 61 years, Rudolf Westphal, brother Leonard Gudenschwager and sister, Darleen (John) Feller, Roseville, California.

Donations may be made on behalf of her grandchildren, to be sent to PO Box 12384, Salem, Oregon 97309

City View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 12 noon at Restlawn Cemetery, West Salem.
