Salem, Oregon - Paul Sundin passed away peacefully at home while in his sleep.
Paul was born in Salem, Oregon to Lyman Dwight Sundin and Pauline (Campbell) Sundin. Paul attended Salem High School where he met the love of his life, Beverly Jean Savage. He graduated in 1950 and in 1951 got a job in Walla Walla, WA as an assistant pro at Walla Walla Country Club. Paul and Beverly married June 15, 1952 and lived in Walla Walla for their first year and then moved back to Salem where Paul became the assistant pro under Bunny Mason at Salem Golf Club. In 1963 Paul became the head pro until he retired from Salem Golf Club in June of 2000.
Golf was the life-blood of Paul's life and career. Paul was known for his quiet and self-effacing manner as he served the members and public at Salem Golf Club. Being greeted by Paul's warm smile was something you could count on every time you came to play a round of golf. He was also quite a good golfer himself, once shooting a 10 under par 62 at Salem Golf Club. From the very beginning of his career he was an advocate of Junior Golf and did much to help grow the game in and around the Salem area. Paul was also a gifted teacher, giving countless lessons from beginners to experts alike. His simple and straightforward teaching style and his warm-hearted dedication to the members of Salem Golf Club won Paul many friends and admirers over the years and made being part of Salem Golf Club one of the finest experiences one could ever enjoy.
Along with golf, Paul loved reading a good action or mystery novel, growing tomatoes every summer, going to Oregon State Beaver football games and just celebrating special occasions with his ever-growing family. He was also an old movie buff and enjoyed listening to some great jazz music.
Paul is survived by his wife Beverly and their 6 children, Victoria Mitchell, Larry (Becky), James, Julia, John (Kim) and Janet (Dave) Orlob, and their 13 grandchildren Jessica, Katy, Heather, Heidi, Michael, Nathan, Shelley, Alicia, Kayla, Briana, Josh, Courtney and Laina, as well as 14 great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lyman Sundin Jr.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11 am at West Salem Baptist Church 1373 8th Street NW, Salem, OR 97304.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oregon Junior Golf.

just learned of uncle Pauls passing on internet. didn't know paul very well but while visiting Salem with my father at a young age he compt my golf at the salem golf club, I thought that was way cool. my condolence randolp john sundin son of lyman

I first met Paul when he was the pro at Salem Golf Course. I have fond memories of that time.
The Cap City tournaments, all the wonderful people we met. Paul was very special to me and Jim. Also enjoyed my time with Bev and Janet.
Those were the good ole days
I am so sorry for your loss, and send my love to you all.
On April 25th, Jim also passed away. I guess Paul and him were in the hospital the same time.

For many years, My father, Keith Groves, came to Salem in August and played golf with Paul. Dad enjoyed those times they spent on the "links" and always had good things to say about him.
So sorry for your loss and my condolences to the family.
