Randolph Traeger Obituary

Randolph Joseph Traeger

October 10, 1957 - October 30, 2017

Mt. Angel - Randy Traeger, 60 of Mt. Angel passed away on Monday, October 30th, 2017. Rosary will be at 7pm, Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 with Funeral Service at 10am, Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 both will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Mt. Angel.

The Lord called Randy home and he is now walking in Heaven in the presence of Jesus and his beloved sister Kimmy. Randy was an entrepreneur, coach, mentor, author, artist, inspirational speaker, and loving husband and father. He became known as "Coach" to many. He coached high school football for 38 years and entered the lives of thousands of young men that would seek his guidance. His amazing characteristics of art and humor were commonly the base for conversation that typically turns philosophical and sometimes mythical. His eclectic nature kept people guessing and always listening. He was the Mayor of Mt. Angel, volunteer fire fighter, parish council and a well-respected business man as executive vice-president of Traeger Grills. He always put others first and used his many gifts to help anyone in need. The culmination of his life's passion is represented in his non-profit organization Virtue First Foundation. His goal was to promote virtue to re-build the character of America's youth. Christ was there at his side through all of his life's struggles and gave him the strength to persevere.

Randy is the eldest son of Joe and Kathy Traeger's nine children. He is survived by his wife, Lynnette Traeger, and children: Richard Louie, Rylan and Hilda Traeger, Tyson and Karen Traeger, Simon Traeger, Krystal and Ryan Berning, Nicolle and Justin DeHerrera, and Derek Traeger; 12 grandchildren, his siblings: Mark Traeger, Debbie Fessler, Laura Traeger, Terese Webb, Greg Traeger, Julie Ott and Brian Traeger. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kimberlee Traeger.

Contributions in memory of Randy may be made to Virtue First or Peruvian Partners. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel of Mt. Angel.

I am so very sorry to hear about Randy. We lost touch over the years but I will never forget the fun we had promoting Traeger grills back in the good old days before anyone knew what they were. I will never forget his trips to Kansas City and the cooking we did.

Our big event was he and I cooking for The US Senate and Congress at a legislative picnic in Washington DC. We even had our own security detail!

He had a great spirit, was inventive, a pioneer and passionate about everything he became involved in.

I considered him a great friend. He will be missed!

My condolences to the entire Traeger family.
