I met Dr Rowell in November 2006 because my 3 year old daughter needed to have multiple cavities filled. We felt very comfortable in the playroom and waiting room. The yellow chair, bright colorful critters on the wall and of course, the cool shades helped Bethany to have a good experience instead of a scary one. We were so impressed that we referred Dr Rowell to our friends and their daughter also became a patient of Dr Rowell. The LORD's blessings on him!

On my way home from a Blazers game with my dad tonight, we got into a brief discussion about his past dental surgery involving his false tooth. He mentioned that he was considering switching dentists in the near future. I mentioned to him that I really couldn't imagine having another dentist, because I always had great experiences at doctor Rowell's, even if im not much of a kid anymore. I have enjoyed every visit, weather I was getting a filling, a check up or a tooth pulled.
Too my dismay, my dad told me of his passing. I couldn't gather words really, and the long trip home was a silent one.
Dr. Rowell always had a kind smile, and could calm me down before I knew pain was coming(Drilling, tooth pulled etc.). He was a great man and a great dentist. He will be in my prayers(His family and staff too). I will always remember him as MY dentist.

I was so sad to hear about Dr. Rowell's passing. Although I am now almost 30 years old, I fondly remember the big yellow chair, the bubble gum-flavored polish, the pink tablets we had to chew before each visit to show just how well we were brushing, and of course, the prize room!
I truly credit him with establishing the dentist as a good place from a very early age. This has led to a lifetime of fear-free dentist visits that have extended long past my last appointment with him - and my current dentist remains amazed that the sealants he put on my molars in the early 90s are still intact! He was everything a pediatric dentist should be, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and staff.

To my very good classmate at UOHSU:
Today I cried, because a good classmate is gone.
After few minutes I smiled, because too many memories came to my mind. I can see Dick laughing, trying to learn a spanish sentence to used it, when the stress was in our Program in it's higher pick.
Today my memories went back 27 years, to find good "momentos", good talk, competition, friendship, a hug when the seminar wasn't as successful as we expected. Dick was there, always was there, as always will be in my memory as my good classmate.
To Marlie and family, our biggest hug in this sad time.
From Costa Rica.

I am very saddened to hear of Dr. Rowell's passing. He was truly a sensitive, understanding and compassionate dentist to my children. It didn't matter what town or state(!) we moved to, he was always my kids' dentist. We would schedule appts. for when we were in town visiting family...no other dentist would do.
My heart goes out to his family and his office staff. His service was much appreciated.

It was such a shock to learn of Dr. Rowell's passing. Almost 20 years have passed since we first walked into his waiting room. Even when there was work to do, Dr. Rowell helped make it easier for the kids. He's a hard act to follow! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. We'll miss him!

It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Dr. Rowell. Our family will continue to be seen at this clinic throughout this transition as this clinic as a whole has done alot to help us through difficult times with great care!
Our youngest son was labeled by our other dentist as being a "difficult" child to work with. After several attempts to fill a small cavity we were asked to seek other help.
Dr. Rowell and his staff made room to see and evaluate our three year old the same afternoon, and to our surprise, our son was well behaved and fit right in!
After our experience with our youngest, we moved all three of our children over to this office and received the same great care and individual attention to each child in each visit!
Dr. Rowell and his staff by way of their personal depth and involvement have impacted all of their patients in a very unique way and we will continue to grow with you all during the changes coming ahead!
You all have created a small legacy and we thank you for all that you do!

My children have been going to see Dr. Rowell for a few years, and they absolutely loved it. The atmosphere in the office was always so friendly and comfortable. I liked the big exam room where we could all be together and the little ones could see how easy it was for the big ones to get cleaned. It made things less scary for them. Dr. Rowell was always interested in my kids and enjoyed their quirky personalities. He was one-of-a-kind and we will miss him terribly.
September 16, 2009
After visiting many pediatric dental lobbies searching for our children's first dentist, we entered Dr. Rowell's office and we're immediately convinced of our choice. The love and compassion radiated there. Our kids were in to see Dr. Rowell this August, and our son (7) couldn't wait to come in again even though Dr. Rowell had told us that he would need to pull out some teeth! Our children's dental needs have only been cared for by Dr. Rowell and his team for a short period, but our hearts have been touched for a liftime. At this time of sorrow we pray your hearts may soon be healed.

We are all so sad to hear about the death of Dr. Rowell. I have never met such a patient dentist. Our son Dylan is disabled and was quite a handful but Dr. Rowell always managed to get him through the appointment and have no need for band aids on his fingers. He was always kind and understanding to both our kids and to us as parents of a special needs child. The kids are both grown now our daughter Alisa 24 is now in the dental field and Dylan 26 still talks about Dr. Rowell. Our thoughts and payers are with the entire staff and his family during this very difficult time. He will be missed.

We first met Dr Rowell shortly after he opened his first office, my son had hit a wall at Skateland and had loosened his front teeth...that was many years and 6 kids ago. All my children have seen Dr Rowell over the years, the youngest just turned 15! They all loved to go to the dentist!! Dr Rowell made it fun and not at all frightening ..They will all remember him and the banana chair!! He will be missed..

We just received the letter with the news of Dr. Rowell's passing. Needless to say we are deeply saddened. We have had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Rowell for the past 9 years. The kids just loved visiting Dr. Rowell and sitting in the big yellow chair with shades on ready for their teeth to be cleaned! My youngest was the most challenging but he always managed to convince her it really was fun to get her teeth cleaned. :-) Our sincerest condolences for his family and his family with his practice.

We sadly received news today of Dr. Rowell's death. When a letter comes from your dentist office you think it's a notice of change of address, or something like that, but you just don't expect it to say "Dr. Rowell passed away." It is a very special person, dentist, who can claim keeping his patients from toddlerhood to adulthood; Joseph was 14 months when he made his first visit to see Dr. Rowell and meet Rachel, and we always exerienced the same outcome, interest in you as a person, and professional dentisty...always. We feel blessed, and are saddened by the news; our hearts and prayers are with the family and wonderful staff.

We are so sad to hear about the death of Dr. Rowell. He was a great dentist for my 3 girls and has previously been expressed, very patient and gentle with them. My oldest was (I would say) not the best patient to have and I remember all the assistants and the office manager, plus myself having to hold her down while she was given a shot. He was so calm about it, while I was the one who was frazzled. Later when she was much older he joked with her about it. I can't imagine the office without him. My thoughts and payers are with the entire staff and his family during this very difficult time. He will be missed.

Dr. Rowell has been my children's dentist for 20 years. Today we learned of his passing and we are deeply saddened by the news. My son is 23 and my daughter is 18 and although they are both considered adults they still went to Dr. Rowell for their teeth cleanings. He made it a comfortable place to be. They were never afraid to go to his office and still came out with some kind of prize at the end. I remember the last time I was actually able to get my son to the office Dr. Rowell came out at the end and sat and talked with Michael and I about his future plans. He asked what Michael was studying in college and he was genuinely interested in Michael's choices. What a great loss to us all. Please know that our hearts are torn for all that loved him most. We shall miss him greatly. Shelly, Michael and Avery Wiedrick

I am so sad to hear of Dr. Rowell's passing. He was a wonderful dentist, and a joy to work for. He was always willing to teach me new things and patiently explain procedures that we were doing. Being a pediatric dental assistant under Dr. Rowell was one of the most rewarding work experiences of my life. Marlie, I will always remember the day the two of you came by the office to show us the beautiful little blue bug that he had just surprised you with. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Patrick and Kari. Rachel, Norma, Mel and Penny, I miss all of you and am praying for you during this difficult time. Over the years I have crossed paths with Dick and Marlie through children activities in Salem and especially at Illahe. Most recently Tim and I enjoyed our connection during the "Alfa Want-To-Be" trips. In Ashland it was great exchanging updates on our children. We will treasure those fleeting moments with Dick. None of us knows what lies around the bend in life's road. We mourn the loss of Dick and will miss him on future auto trips. Our sincere sympathy goes out to Marlie, Patrick, and Kari as well as the entire Rowell family.

My deepest sympathy for Dick's family on his untimely passing. I am a dentist in Albany now but I was a grad pedo assistant when he did his pedo residency at OHSU. May your love and memories of him carry you through this difficult time.

We just learned of the passing of Dr. Rowell. We are very saddened. He has been my five childrens dentist since my oldest son now 20 was 4 years old. My 18 year old son, 17 year old son, 10 year old daughter and 6 year old son were still seeing him. They loved going to his office, especially playing the gameboys!! I have a great pix of Dr. Rowell and my now 17 year old, then 3 sitting in the dentist chair with the sunglasses on!! Dr. Rowell and I had great conversations about the Blazers and frequently he had just attended a game!! You will always be remembered for making my children's visit to the dentist great!! You will be so missed!!

Although Dr. Rowell wasn't someone my kids saw every day, they considered him a friend because of the level of care he gave to his patients. It was a joy as a mother to hear the cheers when I would announce a dentist appointment was made (and the groans when it was time to leave the office!). Our family will be praying for the Rowell family during this time of grieving.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss as well as the loss of many who knew Dr. Rowell through his pediatric dentistry practice. My children are now grown (23 & 26) but going to the dentist, from the time they were three years old was always "fun" . . . and he made it that way with his friendly approach and great staff. The office (both that we recall) was always so cute and kid friendly, loved the birds, kites, molar chairs, sunglasses, game boy, and prizes!! He was always so gentle and kind, my kids were never frightened about going, in fact, they always looked forward to it.
Fond memories for sure, our prayers are with you and please accept our heartfelt sympathies.

My son Devin Hudnall has been a patient of Dr. Rowell's for about 15 years. Dr. Rowell was a wonderful man to my son and I. He always seemed to care about how my son was doing in school and would remember things my son had told him from other visits. I just felt like he truly cared about my son. Devin was in just recently to have his teeth check due to a car accident. Dr.Rowell and his staff showed compassion about his accident. I just can't say how saddened Devin and I are. He will be so very, very missed. I will be praying for his staff and family during this sad time.

I just found out today about Dr. Rowell. I'm not sure how to tell the kids yet. Dr. Rowell has been my kids dentist for the last nine years. He was fantastic! The kids could never figure out how he could ask them a question, and they would answer with all those tools in their mouth and he could still understand them. :O) He even let my daughter do a little putting while he was finishing up with her brother. It made her feel "special". We loved the fish tank and the electronics, but mostly the laughter and comfortableness that usually doesn't come in a dentist office. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the wonderful ladies in the office. May God Bless you all and comfort you during this difficult time.

I first met Dick when he, his brother and father took me sailing in their Thistle sail boat in the 1960's. They were world class sailors, coming in 5th in the national championships. How deeply saddened our family felt when we learned of Dr. Rowell's passing. As a mom of two special needs kids, a trip to the dentist was always a struggle. My oldest child was usually in tears before we left. I know that on occassion Dr. Rowell's ears must have been ringing! However, he was always patient and took the time to see that their dental needs were addressed, no matter the tears and crying. His staff, Rachel, Norma, Melody and Penny were always extremely kind and generous to my children, Brittany and Bryan. Thank you Dr. Rowell for over 23 years of support and care. You will be dearly missed and we hope you find peace and happiness in Heaven. May the Lord bless you and your dear family. With Love, Bob,Dona,Brittany & Bryan Jones

Dr. Rowell has been my dentist for 25 years. My sister and I would always joke about how he would wait until your mouth was full of dental tools to play 20 questions! Asking how school was and if we were playing any sports that year. I ofter wondered if he did it simply for his own enjoyment knowing how hard it was to answer! Even after turning 18 and after having two kids of my own, he was willing to see me as a patient. And there was never any question of where I would take my kids. My daughters first visit was shortly after she turned 1 and I was worried how she would do. But Dr. Rowell gave her a pair of 'snazzy' glasses and put her right at ease. She constantly asks when she'll get her postcard. She's almost 7 now I'm not sure how to tell her this sad news. My son is 1 now and just this summer had his first visit. He enjoyed the huge fish tank in the lobby and slide in the playroom. I'm glad his first visit was to Dr. Rowell. My heart goes out to his family and the ladies from the office. He was a great man and will be missed greatly.

I was a friend of Dick's in grade, middle and high school. Though I haven't seen him much since school my memories of him are wonderful. He was such a warm accepting person. It was a huge shock when I called to make my three kids appointments on Monday and they told me Dr Rowell passed away the night before. We have been going to see him since 2005 when we first moved to Salem. He came highly recommended and now we know why. He was by far the BEST Dentist I have ever met. My two daughters loved him and his games. They actually looked forward to going to the Dentist. My son was only in the chair once, I was surprised he sat still because he won't for a haircut. This would have been his second time. What a huge loss for Salem and all his lucky patients. I hope to find someone as caring as him for a new Dentist. My heartfelt condolences to the rest of his family.

We are so saddened by the loss of Dr. Rowell to the community. He was such a great pediatric dentist; he always connected with my son and put him at ease. Dick Rowell was not only our kids dentist, but a good friend and golf-buddy to our son, Nate. Dr. Rowell even continued to serve as Nate's dentist as he entered college. Dr. Rowell has been my children's dentist for the last 25 years and my grandchildren just had their checkup. There was never any question about going anywhere else. My oldest hated the idea of looking for a new dentist so much Dr. Rowell told her "ok, but as soon as you graduate college you have to move on". She graduated and finally found a new dentist last year. He will be greatly missed by many and the task of finding a new dentist will be very difficult for many reasons. My thoughts and prayers go out to not only his family, but those who worked with him. May they take comfort from all of us who will miss him too.

Having just returned to Salem after a long hiatus, I was looking forward to seeing Dick again at our recent 40th reunion. We skied together in HS and I so vividly remember his smile on the ski slopes. I am so very sorry for you loss. My prayers are with you.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dick. We had many good times playing at our houses and on Alvarado Terrace as kids. He was one of the "Good Guys". He will be missed.
