Roberta Anderson Obituary

Roberta P. (Bobby) Anderson

December 30, 1926 - May 31, 2014

Roberta Ann Paulson, the daughter of first generation Norwegian-Americans Conrad and Olga Paulson, was born and raised in Shevlin, Minnesota with her older sister Helen and younger brother Roger. She graduated from Bagley High School in 1944 as Salutatorian and attended the University of Minnesota, where she met her future husband, Harry Anderson.

Married for 56 years, Bobby and Harry raised their four children, beginning in Minneapolis, then moving to LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1962 and Milwaukee in 1965. Bobby and Harry moved to Salem in 1976 when Harry went to work for the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Bobby was active in the PTA, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader for all three of her daughters as well as a day camp director, and member of the board of directors of the Milwaukee Girl Council. She was also an officer of Glendale (WI) Women's Club, with whom she bowled and golfed and did charitable work.

In Salem, Bobby and Harry joined the Salem Golf Club where Bobby continued to develop her passion for golf and where she made many friends. Over the years, Bobby made several holes in one and also bowled several 300 games.

Right up until the end, Bobby had a keen mind and intellectual curiosity, which she exercised with expert bridge playing, voracious reading, working crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy religiously. She loved working jigsaw puzzles and did so regularly at the Golf Club and, more recently, also at the Bonaventure, where she moved last October. Nicknamed "Snip" as a child for her sharp wit, she developed into a "funny, feisty grandmother."

Bobby traveled extensively with her husband and, later, with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry and her brother Roger. She is survived by her sister Helen Tilson; her children Karen Shulstad, Ronald Anderson, Kristi Anderson and Carole Heath, and Kim Anderson; her grandchildren Jennifer Anderson and Michael Medau; her sister-in-law Christie (Pat) Powell; her nieces Sally O'Neill, Susan Tilson, Nancy Cook, Joan Tilson, Julie Thomte; her nephew Conrad Paulson; and many dear friends here in Salem and around the country.

All her friends are invited to join us at a memorial service and luncheon beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 at Rudy's at Salem Golf Club, 2025 Golf Course Road S.

Bobbie was such a special lady! Harry was my boss for several years and I loved the way he always referred to Bobbie as "my bride." So very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Bobbie was
a lovely lady. I met her at the therapy
pool many years ago. She was one of our
lunch ladies and we played Bridge together. She was always sweet and fun to be with. She will be missed.
