SALEM - Born and raised in Oregon, Scott loved the outdoors and preferred to spend his time there especially on stormy days. He enjoyed hiking and mountain biking. Some of Scott's other hobbies included wood working, photography, cooking, barbecuing, listening to music, and crossword puzzles. He was known to most as quiet and reserved but was extremely funny and sharp witted. Amazingly creative and artistic, he could take a concept or photo of something and make it into reality. He liked the idea of repurposing wood and metal and his creations can be seen everywhere in his home. Scott liked to try out new recipes in the kitchen but was most passionate about barbecuing and making the perfect BBQ sauce or rub. He was always looking to share his latest creation with family and friends. Scott's favorite time of the year was fall with the changes of color, the fog and rain, even the smells. He had a unique way of seeing beauty in the ordinary and captured it with his camera. He was rarely seen without his camera in hand. He enjoyed football and watching the 49'ers but his real joy came from watching his son participate in school and sports. He constantly marveled at the beautiful young man he helped raise and felt undeserving of such a blessing. A devoted husband and father, what he loved most was spending time with his family, even if it meant staying home doing yard work. It was all done and shared together. Every weekend was a new adventure to be explored with his family and an opportunity to barbecue.

Our hearts are deeply saddened at the loss of such a loving devoted husband and father. He will be forever missed.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents William and Lavonne Coila. He is survived by his spouse Sherie' Coila, his son Nate Coila, stepson James Zagar, stepdaughters Naomi and Paige Zagar, his brother and sister John and Joyce Coila, and brothers Chris and Rick Coila, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Scott's life was celebrated yesterday, November 12th at Minto Brown Island Park.
