Thomas O'Mara Obituary

Thomas Mitchell (Tommy) O'Mara

Salem - June 7, 1986 - Jan. 3, 2019

Tommy passed away in the early morning hours of Jan. 3, 2019 at the age of 32. For the last 3 1/2 years Tommy fought a brave a valiant battle against brain cancer.

Tommy was the beloved son of Michael and Mary O'Mara, and little brother to sister, Shannon. Tommy was born June 7, 1986 in Salem, Oregon. He attended Salem-Keizer Schools and graduated from McKay High School in 2004. He also attended Chemeketa. He was employed by Sherwin Williams until illness forced his retirement.

Tommy had many interests, but was most passionate about sports. He participated in basketball, football and track from an early age. He focused on physical fitness, working out regularly at the gym. He was a talented athlete. Basketball was his favorite and he was a loyal Trailblazer and Duck fan.

Tommy rescued "Charlie," his pit bull when he first became ill. We feel that Charlie was an angel sent from God to be Tommy's constant comfort during his devastating illness.

Tommy was always true and faithful to those he called friends and he had many. He will be missed by his family, his friends and his beloved dog Charlie.

He is survived by his parents, Mike and Mary, his sister Shannon (Kevin) Kalb; nephews Karson, Kollin and niece Kassidy Kalb; grandmother Frances Huffman; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Predeceased by grandparents Al and Margaret O'Mara, uncles Denny O'Mara and Jimmy Huffman.

Our hearts are broken and we will miss your sweet soul. Farewell our beautiful boy until we are together again. Love you "Chocolate Eyes."

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 5503 River Road N, Keizer.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to any dog rescue of your choice.

I'm so sad to hear this news. Tommy was a sweetheart. I remember him most vividly at the baseball fields loving sports and his hot dogs! In the past few months I was blessed with getting some time to talk with Tommy and his mom at Costco, Tommy was brave and optimistic everytime we spoke, And always full of love, hugs and true care about others in the midst of his illness, asking about my sons everytime I saw him wanting to know if they were ok. My heart goes out to all of his family and friends as I know the pain in your hearts. I have no doubt Tommy is peaceful and resting now and we will see him again in heaven! I hope for peace for all who know and love Tommy.

Dear Mike, Mary and family,
We are so sorry to hear about Tommy's
passing. We can only imagine how hard it must be.
When you told me about his brain cancer 3 years
ago, I put him in my daily prayer intentions.
Unfortunately, our intentions are not always the
same as God's will.
Our prayer for you is that each day may be a little bit easier. . .
With Deepest Sympathy,
Joe & Lorrie Fennimore

Mike and Mary, my heart aches for you. May the memories made hold you close, may Tommy's scent fill your home and the softness he left you with wrap you in his Love. I know the Lord is strong within your hearts and souls.. I didn't know Tommy, I am sorry about that, but I have known you and Mike and can vividly imagine the wonderfulness of your Family.
Prayers to all of You

I had the fortunate privilege of hiring Tommy to work with us at Sherwin-Williams. He was just the greatest guy, one of the best employees I have ever had. This is a sad day, I know he fought hard. Sincerely Ken Fox

Mary and family, I can't begin to imagine the pain you are facing. Clearly, you have your faith and our Lord to carry you through these difficult days. I pray you will find comfort in all the lovely memories you have of your beloved Tommy. God bless him in Heaven and God bless you. Nancy Vogt Puntney
