Mr Hannan gave me entry to a world I didn't know existed--the world of ideas and critical thinking and history as interesting and even fun.
He remembers his short tenure teaching in Astoria in the late 60s as miserable, but for me and fellow students, it was such a blessing. He posed questions in history class that led to analysis so one could see the effects of, for example, the automobile on society. He affirmed marginal students like me who were biding time just to get through.
I was not on the path to higher education but I did go on to earn my bachelor degree. And my education continues. For this, I am so grateful to Mr Hannan for opening up the interest and for his encouragement.

My teacher, my colleague, my friend, I was just thinking of you and discovered you have left...Sorry I was remiss...I look forward to catching up with you on the other side...for a cold one and a recounting of your life's rich and variegated patterns...of which you'll always be a part...I've passed your observation to my children...your legacy lives on and beyond. In heartfelt gratitude for you...Jo, and your family.

Tim was a great man. I will always be thankful to him and Jo for opening Reader's Guide in West Salem.
Tim was a great resource on which new author I should read.
Jo and kids, we pass along heart-felt condolences.

We were so sorry to read of Tim's passing. He was a wonderful person and added a lot to our local community. We always enjoyed chatting with him and his wife Jo as well as any other family at the used bookstore. I'll always remember how excited they both were to become grandparents. Family was very important to them. Mary and Dusty

We will miss his smile and his genuine concern. When he asked "how are you", he really was interested in YOU!
Rest in Peace Tim, we will miss you.
