Tommy Nesbit Obituary

Thomas Lee Nesbit Jr., 63, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Nesbit was born Nov. 24, 1946, and was the son of the late Thomas Lee Nesbit Sr., and Helen Hefner Nesbit. He was a member of the Troutman High School Class of 1966, which was the last graduating class of Troutman High School. He was married on Nov. 4, 1995, to Reatha Greer Nesbit, who survives. Mr. Nesbit was disability retired from ASMO as a supply manager after nearly 20 years of service. Tommy was a "people person," was a member of the Good Guys Hot Rod Club, enjoyed playing golf, and watching all sports on TV. He was a member of New Perth A.R.P. Church. Mr. Nesbit is survived by his wife, Reatha Greer Nesbit, of the home, and their beloved poodle "April;" a son, Brian Thomas Nesbit and wife, Jill, of Mooresville; a stepdaughter, Wanda Haliburton and husband, Richard, of Statesville; a sister, Cissy N. Donaldson and husband, Charles, of Troutman; three grandsons, Zane, Alex and Cory Nesbit; a stepgranddaughter, Crystal Horton and fiancé, Bryant York; a stepgrandson, Michael "Book" Horton; three nieces, Cindy Eller and husband, Wayne, Pam Potter and husband, David, and Jennifer Tucker and husband, Scott; a nephew, Kevin Donaldson and wife, Kristin; four aunts, Bea Readon, of New York, Angie Newton, of Troutman, Aileen Robbins, of Statesville, and Betty Jean Smith, of Statesville. He is also survived by former wife Susan Brawley Sloan and husband, Regie, of Statesville. Mr. Nesbit was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Harrington, and by a niece, Debbie Wilcox, along with four aunts and four uncles. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bobby Henderson officiating. Active pallbearers will be Robbie Holland, Ken Ochs, Mike Pope, Tony Miller, Jeff Moose, Kenny Watt, Tommy Lee and Wayne Eller. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Stutts, Charlie Aites, Jerry Haithcox, Junior Smith, Casey Smith, Ken Harris, Flip Bost, Bill Rogers, Tony McClain, and Jeff Carter. Burial will follow in the New Perth Church Cemetery in Troutman. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Tommy Lee Nesbit Jr.
