Arnold Bandy Obituary

Chief Arnold M. Bandy, 82, passed away peacefully at Moultrie Creek Nursing Home on April 20, 2015. He was born March 21, 1933, in Canebrake, West Virginia, to Fred and Nancy Stacey Bandy.
He was married to Carmie (Connie) Lee Deskins in 1956 in Richlands, Virginia, and moved to St. Augustine in 1959.
He began his career in law enforcement in 1971 when he joined the St. Johns County Sheriff's Department as a reserve deputy. He became a full-time deputy in October 1972. In 1979 he began working as a detective with the St. Augustine Beach Police Department and shortly thereafter was appointed as the Marshal of St. Augustine Beach. He was St. Augustine Beach Chief of Police for 24 years until his retirement in 2003.
Upon his "retirement" he went back to work at the St. Johns County Sheriff's Department. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. Even with all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and they gave him his greatest joy.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie; daughters, Ellen Mullen, Dreama (Mark) Benton and Michelle (Mike) Hull; son, Frederick (Mary) Bandy; five grandchildren, Evan and Erin Hull, Connor and Cameron Benton, and Lisa (J) Heuer; family, Sharyn Laymon and Angela and Zack Hall; his good friends, Chief Robert Hardwick, Kevin Kelshaw, Joe and John Bennett, as well as many other caring friends.
Special thanks to Kathy, Bruce, Carol and everyone at the COA Memory Enhancement Program and to the staff at Moultrie Creek Nursing Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bennett, John Bennett, Kevin Kelshaw, Herbie Greenleaf, Bruce Simon, Tom Bradley, Jimmy Rousseau, Joe Beaudoin and Tim Mesuita.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. at San Sebastian Catholic Church, located at 1112 State Road 16, St. Augustine, FL 32084, with Father Thomas P. Walsh, celebrant. Back in the late 60's early 70's the Bandy's were my friends and neighbors. Freddy's dad (Arnold) always included the kid down the street (me) in memorable outings (you guys know what). There was always honor, respect, and kindness. Just wanted you all to know I appreciated you all, and him. Larry.

When I was a rookie, I was paired with Arnold to learn the ropes. I was impressed with his demeanor and they way he treated the public. My brother Burt and I became friends with Arnold over the years and would visit him at the beach P.D. from time to time. I am sure that Arnold and Burt are visiting again. God Bless
