Elizabeth Conlon Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Manning Conlon, born in Saugus, Massachusetts, entered into eternal life on July 2, 2018. She was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Dow Manning.

Betty was the most loving, caring and giving person you could ever meet. A mother, who will forever have the love all of her children and all her other family members. She was a devoted wife who loved her husband of 56 (66) years. Betty will be lovingly remembered forever by all who knew her.

She graduated from Saugus High School in 1950 and was employed at Saugus Telephone Company. In 1951, she was hired by General Electric River Works, in Lynn, Massachusetts, where she met her husband, Joseph Brian Conlon. They were married at Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus. Subsequently they moved to Lynchburg, Virginia; Fairhaven, Massachusetts; and then to Annandale, Virginia, where she worked as a bookkeeper and waitress for several years before retiring in St. Augustine in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her mother, father, and brother, Joseph Manning.

She is survived by her brother, James Manning, Peabody, Massachusetts; sister, Barbara Dumond, St. Augustine; her seven children, Joseph Conlon Jr. (Mayumi), San Mateo, California; Mary Giancoli (Ron), West Chester, Pennsylvania; Patricia Troendle, (George), Saint Helena Island, South Carolina; Nancy Conlon, St. Augustine; Kathleen Ulses (Rob), Trophy Club, Texas; Edward Conlon (Michelle), St. Augustine; Richard Conlon, St. Augustine; 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Betty was a devout and active member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, a member of Saint Anastasia Ladies Association (SALA), and was the chairperson that founded the Helping Hands Ministry, which she held near and dear to her heart.

Funeral Mass and Internment will be held on July 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 5205 A1A South, St. Augustine, FL 32080. In lieu of flowers Betty requested that donations to be made in her name to St. Anastasia Catholic Church Building Fund or St. Anastasia Ladies Association. A reception will follow in the St. Jude Celebration Hall.

So sad to read of Betty's passing. She was a dear, sweet friend to my parents, Bernadine and Gordon McEwen. I'm truly sorry I never got to meet her, but my 95 year old Dad still speaks fondly of his friends, Betty and Joe. Sincere condolences to all who knew and loved her.

We didn't see Betty often, but when we did it was usually with a large crowd. She was always one of the first to reach out & say Hi & ask how we are. She was very sweet lady & was so proud of her kids & grand kids. That was obvious to understand by just speaking with her for a minute. I know she can take consolation in the great legacy left behind with her family. May Jesus help you find peace & strength in your memories. Our condolences go out to all the family & we will keep praying for you & Betty. GodSpeed.
