Frank Kenney Obituary

Mr. Frank Mcleod Kenney Jr., 88, of St Augustine, Fla., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Glenmoor Resort Retirement Community.

Frank, the eldest son of Cora Dupler and Frank M. Kenney, was born in 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Air Corps in World War II, after enlisting in February 1943. After experiencing the party of a lifetime on V-J Day in Los Angeles, he shipped out to the Pacific Theater where he maintained radio and radar equipment in heavy bombers. After serving in the occupation of Korea, Frank returned to his studies at Purdue University where he graduated with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. He began his career with Union Switch and Signal after which he joined Martin Marietta Corporation where he worked on the ICBM missile sites in Colorado. He then transitioned into business development, obtaining a M.B.A. from Chicago University and worked for FMC Corporation and Dynatech Corporation"s R&D Engineering subsidiary. The later part of his career was involved in high-tech acquisitions.

Frank married his college sweetheart, Audrey May Runkel to whom he was married for 58 years. He enjoyed outdoor pursuits, involving his family in various adventures from river rafting with the "teenage beauties", hiking in the Colorado Rockies or the Appalachian Mountains to averting mutinies by disaffected adolescents on his many sailing voyages. Upon retirement, he and Audrey traveled the world - seeing China"s Tiananmen Square only days before the massacre and traveling with one of the first U.S. groups to visit Saudia Arabia. The stories these excursions generated became taller with the telling over the passing years. The meticulous planning and research, which characterized his life, were evident in all that he undertook from the five year home improvement plans he inflicted upon his sons to his success as an individual investor.

Frank is dearly loved and sorely missed by his children: daughter Bonnie, sons, Frank III, Bill and Tom; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rakouska (Ken) and grandchildren, Kelly, Calum, Bryan, Amy, Joey, Jake and Eil's and his "extended family" of nurses and nursing assistants at the Glenmoor skilled nursing facility.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov 3, 2012, at Creighton Hall in Glenmoor"s Community Center. Dr. Dudley Weaver, pastor at Memorial Presbyterian Church of St. Augustine, will conduct the service. Inurnment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glenmore Scholarship fund, members association of Glenmoor, 235 Towerview Drive, St. Augustine, FL 32092.

Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
