George Green Obituary

Dr. George Green Jr., passed away Nov. 29, 2008, at home with Hospice in attendance. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 29, 1929, to George F. Green and Doris Duncan Green, George grew up in upstate New York. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Wallace Green of St. Augustine; three sisters, Darlene Smith and Patricia Lanz of Westfield, N.Y., Kay Mackie of Raytown, Mo.; and brother, Roger Green of Mountain City, Texas; many nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. George was in the Army during the Korean War, first stationed in a band at Fort Dix, N.J., later playing in the officer's club in small jazz groups in Washington state and Japan. He graduated from FSU with a Ph.D in mathematics education and taught mathematics at FSU, Indiana State University and Flagler College, where he was chairman of the Mathmatices Department, retiring in 2000. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Northeast Homecare in Dr. Green's name. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in his memory at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine on Dec. 12, 2008 at 10 a.m.
