James Williams Obituary

James Robert "Pee Wee" Williams, 93, St. Augustine, died July 29, 2011, at Flagler Hospital. He was born on the Ides of March, 1918, in Elkhart Lake, Wis. As part of "The Greatest Generation" he proudly served in the U.S. Army in WW II with Merrill"s Marauders on the Burma Road Campaign as a mule skinner. Pee Wee continued his U.S. Army career for twenty-seven years. He and his family lived in Illinois, Massachusetts, Indiana, 2 tours in Germany, Texas, and Missouri. During this time Dad excelled as a sportsman garnering a multitude of trophies in bowling, volleyball, ping pong, and golf. In 1968 the family retired to St. Augustine and Dad"s fantasy of endless fishing was realized. Many will remember him from the Lazy Sands and the Ponce de Leon Golf Course.

To honor and remember him are his wife of 67 years, Amanda Anclin Williams; daughters, Cheryl (Jackie) Johnson, Debbie (Rick) James; son, Edward "Mickey" Williams; grandchildren, Chad James, Christopher and Michael Johnson, Shawn Williams, Cathy Holeva and Laura Grier; and great-grandchildren, Caedmon, Celes, Cait, Jake, Jamie, Brooke, Jack and Kaden.

He is also survived by brothers, Roy and Spike Williams and sister, Betty Oldenburg all of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Pee Wee led a full, eventful, and satisfying life. We appreciate all the years that God allotted him.

A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery.

A celebration and remembrance service for family and friends will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the Marlin Club at Camachee Cove.

Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256

St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Debbie,
I was truly sorry to hear about your dad. My heart goes out to you, and all of your family. Over the next weeks and months I'll be remembering all of you in my prayers, especially your mother. May the Lord comfort you.

Send my heartfelt sympathy and prayer to both you and your close Family. Your Father was highly respectable and energetic person. In touch your heart is great fond memories of joyful times together as you celebrated life with your Father, he wants you all go on celebrating your entire enjoyable life as he did until you all will see him again someday.
