John R. Clark, husband of the late Martha J. Clark, died at home Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, after a long struggle with emphysema/COPD. He was a decorated war hero who received a Silver Star and Purple Heart for multiple acts of courage saving the lives of many in Korea while serving in the Marine Corps. Scott, "Shalako" with Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot and "Villa Rides" with Yul Brynner. He continued to entertain tourists as a conductor on The Red Train through St. Augustine, sharing its history and culture, the bus bobbing and weaving from people laughing at his stories.
He is survived by his dear friends Cynthia Jordan and Tammy Clifford; his nieces and nephews, Leslie A. Roberts, Eugene B. Clark, James C. Clark, Timothy J. Clark, Patricia C. Brennan, Paul M. Clark, Mary Ellen Clark, Andrew Clark, Jeffrey C. Clark, Peggy S. Clark, Samuel J. Clark, Nancy J. Clark, Richard Clark, Claudia Jackson and Phillip Clark.
A very generous man who supported veterans, Catholic and Children"s charities, he was devoted to Smile Train, a non-profit organization helping to restore smiles to children overseas born with cleft palate. Interment will be held after the 9 a.m. Mass at St. Anastasia Parish on Sept. 30, 2011. Contributions in his memory can be made to The Smile Train.
