John Erickson Preuss

1955 - 2016

John Erickson Preuss (Aug. 25, 1955 - Sept. 2, 2016) passed away after a long battle with cancer. John was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and lived in Connecticut and Indiana as a child. He moved to Florida with his family in 1968.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth Anne Brown Preuss, and their only child, John Patrick Preuss (Renata Quiroz) in San Ysidro, California; brother Stephen Charles Preuss (Jil Rader) in Brandon, Fla., and sister Mary Katherine Preuss in Spring Green, Wis. John was preceded in death by his father, Donald Emil Preuss, his mother, June Francis Ploetz Preuss, and sister, Virginia Lynn Preuss.
John lived a rich, full life, traveled many paths and embraced many philosophies and religious traditions during his lifetime. He often seemed to wander and generally threw himself into what interested him. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla. He served six years in the U.S. Navy, where he saw much of the world. He was a youth soccer coach and referee for 19 years in Gainesville and St. Augustine.
At the time of his death, he was retired after working 24 years for the City of St. Augustine. His hobbies included gardening, music and reading. He was an active member of the St. Augustine YMCA and the St. Augustine Tergar Meditation Community. John considered himself to be abundantly blessed in every way.
