Joseph W. Costello

Joseph W. Costello, 67, died May 6, 2018. Devoted family member, dedicated friend, passionate sailor, and lover of life. Graduated Detroit Cooley High School. Worked early years for Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. Moved to California in 1980 to work remainder of his career (25-plus years) as an engineer on classified projects at Boeing. Attained advanced degree in business from Pepperdine University. Spent his retirement years since 2011 in St. Augustine.
Grew up in foster homes but became integral member of Feldman family in high school. Remained a faithful, supportive brother to all Feldmans whose hearts hurt at his passing: Howard (Patti), who brought Joe into the family, Penny Feldman, Esther (Steve Simon), Rosalyn Suprenant (Ron), Marc (Beth), David (Sandy), Joe Feldman and the next generation of children and grandchildren whom he considered his nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by Alice Feldman, who gave him motherly love, and Meyer Mike Feldman, who gave him fatherly advice.
Joe will be missed by wide community of friends. Joan Beevers has been there for Joe for 30-plus years. He is grateful for end of life care and companionship from Maureen Mitchell.
Joe loved the water and was passionate about sailing, boat racing, He and his crew earned many trophies sailing Skybird. He was a board member of the St. Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation and inducted in Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Joe chose to live life with great energy and enthusiasm, despite serious lifelong health problems.
Mass at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Cathedral Basilica in St. Augustine. Burial immediately following at San Lorenzo Cemetery, 1635 U.S. 1, St. Augustine, followed by a gathering of friends and family at noon for a 1 p.m. remembrance and celebration of Joe's life and lunch at St. Augustine Yacht Club, 442 Ocean Vista Ave.
