Millie Daniel Obituary

Millie Robinson Daniel, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Augustine Beach on Jan. 4, 2003, attended by loving family members. After a hard-fought battle with cancer, her body succumbed but her spirit never did.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, William Y. Daniel. Millie was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Harrelson County, Ga., the youngest of 14 children of William and Sara Robinson.

Millie and W.Y. moved to St. Augustine Beach with their children Becky, Scotty and Kelly in 1961, and were soon joined by their oldest son, Sammy, his wife Pennie and oldest grandson Keith. Millie was employed at Dobbs Bookbinders for several years while W.Y. worked at Fairchild Aircraft. Most longtime residents will remember Millie and W.Y. however, when they operated Bob's Bar-B-Que and then the Beachcomber on A Street at St. Augustine Beach. In late years, Millie owned the Country Peddler Store on State Road 16.

Millie was devoted to her family and was a source of inspiration to them.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Sammy and Mary Daniel, St. Augustine; daughter and son-in-law Becky and Jake Knowles, Green Cove Springs; son and daughter-in-law Scott and Margie Daniel, Warner Robbins, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Colin Mitchell, Hampton, Ga. Grandchildren are Keith Daniel, Kevin Daniel, Karen Daniel Hudgins, Kimbrough Daniel, Kristi Daniel Barnlund, Alan Knowles, Debbie Knowles Reddish, Angela Knowles Giraldo, Travis Daniel, Brandon Stratton, Beau Stratton, Samantha Stratton and Bradley Stratton. She also has 21 great-grandchildren. Her brother Andrew Robinson, Birmingham, Ala., and sisters Zora Lashley and Meada Dewberry, LaGrance, Ga., also survive. Many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends will mourn and miss her.

Flowers are gratefully accepted. Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home with burial at St. Augustine Memorial Park.
