Robert Barnett Obituary

Robert David Barnett Sr. passed away peacefully on Nov. 2, 2017. He was born on Nov. 17, 1926, in Charlotte, North Carolina, the youngest of 12 children born to Ella Potts Barnett and Alfred Haywood Barnett Sr. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army, serving in World War II in the Asian and Pacific theaters. He went to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with a bachelor's degree in business administration. In 1968, he attended Rutgers University, graduating from The Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Dave spent his career in banking, retiring from Barnett Banks of Florida as executive vice president. He was active and held offices in many organizations, and initiated two companies for Barnett Banks of Florida. He taught banking courses at Notre Dame, Duke and University of Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Debra Schenck, Dave Barnett Jr. (Tina) and Deena Weinmann (Duane); five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that gifts may be made to the Barnett Baseball Scholarship in his name to benefit a deserving Flagler College baseball player. Gifts can be made to Flagler College and mailed to the Office of Institutional Advancement at 74 King St., St. Augustine, FL 32084.
A graveside service for family will be held at a later date.

So sorry for your loss.

Dave was a true gentleman, even when his health deteriorated, he never spoke an ugly or hateful word. Dave was appreciative of not only his surroundings, people around him, but most of all the love of his family. The world has lost a great man he will be missed.
