Robert F. Colay "Big Bob/Dragon/Mongo" 56, died peacefully at his home in Columbus, Ga., on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Colay was born March 1, 1956, in St. Augustine, Fla., to Mary L. Coley and the late Thaddeus Strohman. When Bob was 14 years old, the family relocated to Pleasantville, N.J. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 16 where he started boxing. On Oct. 25, 1985, he fought Mike Tyson at the Atlantis Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City. He was a traffic control officer for the Atlantic City Police Dept., an Atlantic City firefighter, a member of the Glaziers Union for 30 years from which he recently retired and lastly he was owner/operator of Colay Refrigerated for the past seven years in which he traveled throughout the United States and Canada until he was no longer physically able.
Bob was predeceased by his grandparents, Gardner and Kelsie Charles, uncle Abe and aunt Williemae Reed, aunt Juanita Taylor, uncle Freddie Charles, uncle Gardner Charles, Jr., and niece Shalina Brodie.
He leaves to cherish fond memories a son, Matthew Colay of Camden, N.J.; daughter, Davina Colay Wilson of Woodstown, N.J.; step-children Eugene Wilder of Atlantic City, N.J., Rosie Wilder of Atlantic City, N.J., and Tiana Wilder of Philadelphia, Pa.; one granddaughter, Aarlyn Dixon of Camden, N.J.; his loving mother, Mary L. Coley of Pleasantville, N.J.; five brothers, Bernard Coley (Davita) of Quinton, N.J., Dr. Thomas Coley (Dr. Kathleen Twyner) Granger, Ind., Bradford Coley of Columbus, Ga.; one of his devoted caregivers, George Coley of Mays Landing, N.J., and Alphonso Gomez (Tina) of Columbus, Ga., both were also his devoted caregivers; two sisters, Georgiana McCall (Gerald) of Millville, N.J., and Martha Pitts of Vineland, N.J.; a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.

Such a very nice man. I rented him the house he was last in in Columbus,Ga. I was so excited and honored to meet him. This just breaks my heart to know hehas passed. RIP MR. COLAY!
