Robert Kehr Obituary

Robert Kehr, age 91, of St. Augustine passed away on Dec. 26, 2016. He grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where he attended the first eight grades of school at St. Anthony School, and later, graduated from Parker High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in July of 1943 and attended basic training at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri. While in the military, he attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo. In July 1945, he graduated as a Flight Officer and enlisted for active duty. In February of 1948, Mr. Kehr became a Master Sergeant and received a direct commission as 2nd Lieutenant. He was then discharged from active duty. In December of 1949, he graduated from Highway Patrol School in Ohio. He retired from Ohio Highway Patrol in August 1979 after serving 30 years. During his time with the OHP, he joined the Air National Guard and was ordered to active duty as Captain in the U.S. Air Force. In 1973, he completed Air War College and was promoted to Colonel before retiring in September of 1975. Following retirement from the U.S. Air Force, he worked for the Department of Highway Safety. He and his lovely wife, Mary Anne, moved to Florida in December of 1995 where they attended St. Anastasia Catholic Church and volunteered for the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office for 20 years. All in all, he had 45 years of state service and 31 years of military service.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Anne Kehr and daughter, Kathleen Kehr.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anastasia Catholic Church at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, with U.S. Air Force honors.
Arrangements are under the care of St. Johns Family Funeral Home & Crematory.
