Sara Cotterman Obituary

Sara Jane "Sally" Cotterman, 89, St. Augustine, peacefully passed away Sept. 30, 2014, at the Bailey Center for Caring after a courageous fight with cancer.

Sara was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Max Wilson Cotterman, her brother, C. Dwight Rector, Jr. and parents, Laura Belle McDill and Charles Dwight Rector.

Sara is survived by her son, Bruce Wilson Cotterman, daughter-in-law, Kate Cotterman, daughter, Laurel C. Coon, son-in-law Terry M. Coon and granddaughter, Amanda Mary Cotterman.

Sara was born, Dec. 27, 1924, in Circleville, Ohio where she lived on their farm in Yellowbud until attending Ohio State University. Sara graduated as a Registered Nurse and married Max on Aug. 30, 1947. Her family resided in Painesville, Ohio, Fort Wayne, Ind., Erie, Pa., and Mt. Prospect, Ill., prior to retirement in Venice and St. Augustine, Fla.

As a young mother and wife, Sara was active in her church, garden club, schools and extracurricular activities of her children. She continued to love and devote her time to many clubs and activities in which she often had responsible and leadership roles.

In 2002, Sara and Max relocated to St. Augustine. Sara was a devoted and faithful member of the Shores United Methodist Church and active in various committees at Conquistador Condominiums of St. Augustine Shores.

Sara was a loving, caring wife, mother, and loyal friend to many. She was much loved and respected by everyone.

A memorial service is planned at St. Augustine Shores United Methodist Church, 724 South Shores Blvd., on Oct. 7, 2014, at 3 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Augustine Shores United Methodist Church.

Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park (www.craigfuneralhome.com) is charge of arrangements.
