Vito Aruanno Obituary

Vito Paul Aruanno, 83, of St. Augustine, FL went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, May 27, 2018 after a courageous battle with bone cancer. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beautiful and joyful wife, Jane, and daughters Laurie Alexander and Julie Sellers (Jamie), his nephew Paul Francois (Lynn). Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Amanda Pannone (Eric) with Zach and Caleb; Jenny Alexander; Anthony Quintieri (Catherine) with Paul and Caroline; Nicole Quintieri with Ava and Justice; James Sellers; Jennifer and Eric Love with KeriAnne and Matthew; Kyle and Susan Havill with Michael, Lauren and Mike. To list his friends and all those he touched with his life would be impossible!
Vito was born on October 22, 1934 in The Bronx, NY and raised by his grandfather in Ruvo di Puglia, in the Province of Bari, Italy before returning to the United States as a teenager. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy; was chief of respiratory therapy at Baptist Hospital, Miami, FL; owner of Aruanno's restaurant, St. Augustine Beach and first and foremost - a faithful servant of God! He loved his family and friends (and even strangers) with amazing passion. He loved his church (Good News), woodworking, tennis, golf, cooking and sharing great meals, telling stories and playing bocce with a glass of wine in hand!
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Kay Robinson Aruanno, his parents, sister (Jeanette Francois) and an infant son and daughter.
Vito saw God in everything and everyone. All of life was ministry to him and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. When you watch a sunset (his favorite) think of Vito and thank God for his life.
There will be a celebration of his life on JUNE 16TH, Saturday, 5:00-8:00pm at Good News Church, 1357 Wildwood Drive in St. Augustine. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS donations to the Mobility Worldwide Florida Penney Farms project would be appreciated (P.O.Box 919 Penney Farms, FL 32079)

Vic Aruanno was my very first mentor in healthcare way back at Jackson Memorial. Vic hired me in 1964 straight out of early high school and he believed in me, taught me, humored me, helped me mature from 17 1/2 y/o to 21. He is the reason I am in healthcare after 55 years and I will never forget him and will never hesitate in honoring him in my pursuit of a long, successful, satisfying and surprising career as a professional Respiratory Practitioner turned business man. I will never forget you, Vic. RIP

Vito was a wonderful man and I'm sure will be missed by many. I worked for him back in the 80's and he was such a kind person. He taught me to have a strong work ethic and leadership skills that later guided me in my career as a department manager.
Thoughts and prayers to the family.

I'm very sad that Vito has passed. From the first day we became neighbors, and he brought us a bottle of wine, he has been an inspiration. I can only aspire to have such kindness, grace and strength. I will miss hearing his music coming from his workshop. Rest in peace my friend.

How sad I am on hearing the news of Vito's death. From the first time I met him we became good friends and that friendship will continue even with his death. I have kept a "reserve" wood working piece he did for me. It is always in the center of my dining table.

Our hearts go out to Jane, Laurie and Julie and extended family. Vito touched the hearts of all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. I will never forget how proud he was with showing people his workshop and projects. What great memories he left us all. All we who will come behind him know that he was found faithful. With our love and condolences.
