Walter Faulk Obituary
Walter graduated from high school and attended college in Palatka before starting his career as a loan officer at First Federal Savings and Loan Association. From there, he became a federal savings and loan examiner and then the chief operating officer of a federal savings and loan in Tallahassee. Later, he worked for the Federal Home Loan Bank System in Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta, ultimately as director of banking supervision. In 1987, Walter received the Federal Home Loan Bank Board's Exceptional Service Award for his work during our country's savings and loan crisis.
From 1995 until shortly before his death, Walter and his wife partnered to work under contract to the International Monetary Fund as banking supervision advisers to over 15 war-torn and/or developing countries. In addition, Walter served as an instructor for IMF seminars on banking supervision around the world. Thank goodness Walter enjoyed traveling so much.
Walter was so proud of his children and grandchildren, and he loved them unconditionally. He also loved his beach, especially driving south over the Matanzas Inlet bridge toward home. Walter was an avid reader and thinker. He continually wondered, marveled, and read about world affairs and the universe around him. Every Florida Gators football game was a must-see event. And he loved his dogs.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Lester and Lelia Faulk, his sister Eugenia Hebel, his brother Glenn Ray Faulk, and his son David Lawrence Faulk.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 27 years, Betsy Brown Faulk; sister Martha Faulk Wells, Fort Pierce; daughter Lisa Faulk Reid, Colorado Springs, Colorado; son Glenn Mark Faulk, St. Augustine; son Walter Henderson Faulk, Jr., St. Augustine; daughter Dr. Bailey Trump Slagle (Zak Slagle), Morehead City, N.C.; granddaughter Jessica Hope Reid, Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandson Glenn Mark Faulk, Jr., St. Augustine; and five nieces.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at Craig Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Hwy., St. Augustine, FL 32084.
While flowers are gratefully accepted, please consider honoring Walter by donating to a local charity.

Walter and I served on IMF missions to African countries. He was a great colleague with a sensitivity toward the people we were trying to help. I will always remember his sense of humor and dedication to his profession as a bank supervisor. I miss him much.

Walter has been not only advisor to us but a very precious friend and expert to the Licensing and Supervision Department of Central Bank of Somalia. Walter never told me his nickname, but all of us who knew him, held him in the highest regard, always enjoyed his company, appreciated his love for Betsy, relished in being his colleague and friend, never called him anything but Walter. Many around the world will miss him greatly. I miss him very, very much especially being on mission now with his beloved Somali bank supervisory team. My sincerest condolences. He was a great man.
