James Hinkle Obituary

James Harles Hinkle was welcomed into the presence of his Savior in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 22, 2025. He spent the last day of his life surrounded by family and friends as they sang over him, prayed over him, and told him goodbye. He was 76-years-old. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home with Ministers Adam Ellis and Glenn Blankenship officiating. Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Cullman, Alabama. The family received friends at 10:00 a.m. Family gathered for a private visitation at 9 a.m. James (Jim) Hinkle was born to Winfred & Genell Hinkle on January 20, 1949, in Cullman, Alabama. On November 2, 1969 Jim found the love of his life, in a sweet beautician from Southern Illinois when he visited his sister at beauty school while he was home on leave from the Navy. On April 12, 1970 he asked her to be his wife. They were married later that year on August 22,1970. Jim & Sue's adventures took them to Scotland by way of the Navy where he served as an award-winning Barber on the U.S.S. Canopus and where their first child, Denise Carrol was born in April of 1972. Following his service in the Navy, Jim and Sue started building a beautiful life in Birmingham Alabama. They completed their little family in January of 1978 when their second child, Dana Elaine was born. In 1982 Jim and Sue opened Trussville Hair Company, a respected and successful business in Trussville, AL where Jim and Susie (as Jim liked to call her) worked, side by side for 31 years. His customers quickly learned that when Jim cut your hair, you gained more than just a barber. You gained a friend. Jim was all about building. With his own two hands (and a few subcontractors), he built the house in Argo, AL that became his family's home. From his barber chair, he built relationships and community. By the grace of God, the love of his family, and the sweat of his brow, Jim Hinkle built a good life. He is preceded in death by his father, Winfred Hinkle; his mother, Emma Genell Hinkle; his brother-in-law, Ronnie Cluck (husband of Carrol), his brother-in-law, Gene Cluck (husband of Nancy), and his brother-in-law Leon McClendon (husband of Linda). He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Hinkle; his daughter, Denise Thrasher (and her husband, Donald Thrasher); his daughter, Dana Ellis (and her husband, Adam Ellis); his grandchildren: Justin Thrasher (and his wife Brittney), Emma Ellis, Chloe Ellis; his great-grandchildren: Jaxon Thrasher & Amelia Thrasher; his sister, Linda McClendon (wife of Leon); his sister, Donna, and a slew of nieces and nephews. Jim also loved his church, Argo Park Church of Christ. In the unlikely event that he never invited you to visit the wonderful family of faith that he held tight in his heart; we know he'd want us to use this opportunity to extend that invitation to you, now, on his behalf. Just tell them Jim sent you.
